MY PREDICTIONS

BEST PICTURE (DRAMA)

1. Oppenheimer
2. Killers of the Flower Moon
3. Maestro
4. Anatomy of a Fall
5. Past Lives
6. The Iron Claw

* Desperately hoping All of Us Strangers gets in here. I would have that just on the outside at 7th.

BEST PICTURE (MUSICAL/COMEDY)

1. Poor Things
2. Barbie
3. The Holdovers
4. American Fiction
5. The Color Purple
6. May December

BEST DIRECTOR

1. Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer
2. Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon
3. Yorgos Lanthimos, Poor Things
4. Greta Gerwig, Barbie
5. Bradley Cooper, Mestro
6. Alexander Payne, The Holdovers

BEST ACTRESS (DRAMA)

1. Lily Gladstone, Killers of the Flower Moon
2. Carey Mulligan, Maestro
3. Sandra Huller, Anatomy of a Fall
4. Annette Bening, Nyad
5. Greta Lee, Past Lives
6. Jessica Chastain, Memory

I should maybe be predicting Cailee Spaeny for Priscilla. She's playing an icon and has gotten a lot of praise. But something is keeping me from doing it. It's just a feeling. It's partially because I didn't think her performance was anything special, and everyone I talk to who has seen it feels the same. But also, I'm not sure they'll go for her over awards darling Jessica Chastain. She was even nominated for Miss Sloane. In a perfect world, Eliza Scanlen would get in for her fantastic performance in The Starling Girl. It's such a small movie and there's no chance of it happening, but the film and her performance are among the year's best. I also wish Florence Pugh had a shot for A Good Person. I thought she was incredible. The reception for the film was too mixed for her to get in, but her performance might be my favorite lead actress performance of the year so far. I have many more to see, but I can't imagine her not making my top 5.

BEST ACTOR (DRAMA)

1. Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer
2. Bradley Cooper, Maestro
3. Leonardo DiCaprio, Killers of the Flower Moon
4. Colmon Domingo, Rustin
5. Andrew Scott, All of Us Strangers
6. Zac Efron, The Iron Claw

This will be one of the most nerve-wracking category announcements for me. There's pretty much no chance both of my two favorite lead actor performances of the year, Andrew Scott for All of Us Strangers and Barry Keoghan for Saltburn, will get in. It's likely one or the other. I think it will be Andrew Scott, which is the one I most want to see happen anyway. He's heartbreaking in All of Us Strangers. There is, of course, a world where neither makes it in. That would be criminal. I wish Saltburn had submitted as a comedy, which I feel is the most fitting category. Especially if May December is considered one. Barry would get in there for sure. The final slot in that category is very weak.

BEST ACTRESS (MUSICAL/COMEDY)

1. Emma Stone, Poor Things
2. Margot Robbie, Barbie
3. Fantasia Barrino, The Color Purple
4. Natalie Portman, May December
5. Jennifer Lawrence, No Hard Feelings
6. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, You Hurt My Feelings

I would love it if Dreyfus didn't get in. I found You Hurt My Feelings pretty disappointing. Abby Ryder Fortson for Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret would be a great nomination. So would Ayo Edebiri for Bottoms. I was tempted to predict the latter. She's hot right now. And Beanie Feldstein got nominated for Booksmart, which I'd compare Bottoms to. It's certainly possible. I'm also not convinced that a surprise nomination for Michelle Williams for Showing Up won't happen. She's an awards darling and it's an acclaimed film. The only thing really holding it back would be that I'm not sure if enough people saw it.

BEST ACTOR (MUSICAL/COMEDY)

1. Jeffrey Wright, American Fiction
2. Paul Giamatti, The Holdovers
3. Timothee Chalamet, Wonka
4. Matt Damon, Air
5. Nicolas Cage, Dream Scenario
6. Jamie Foxx, The Burial

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

1. Da'Vine Joy Randolph, The Holdovers
2. Danielle Brooks, The Color Purple
3. Emily Blunt, Oppenheimer
4. Jodie Foster, Nyad
5. Julianne Moore, May December
6. Rosamund Pike, Saltburn

Rosamund Pike is part wishful thinking (I loved her in Saltburn), but also because I just can't bet against her. When she was nominated out of nowhere for A Private War, it was clear the Globes loved her. That made me predict her to be nominated for I Care A Lot, which pretty much nobody was doing. Not only did she get in for that film, but she won. The Globes voting body is a lot different from when she scored those nominations, but the people who voted for her before are still there. And it's a wickedly delicious performance. I'd be very disappointed if she didn't make it in. I think my alternate would be Rachel McAdams for Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. I would be pleased with that, too. She's wonderful and it would be very well deserved. Penelope Cruz for Ferrari and Taraji P. Henson for The Color Purple are also good bets. This category is hard. It won't happen, but Claire Foy is fantastic in All of Us Strangers. I'd love to see her get in here. I hope she can pick up some steam at some point. Maybe after the film is officially released.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

1. Robert Downey, Jr., Oppenheimer
2. Ryan Gosling, Barbie
3. Mark Ruffalo, Poor Things
4. Charles Melton, May December
5. Robert De Niro, Killers of the Flower Moon
6. Jeremy Allen White, The Iron Claw

I just have a feeling about Jeremy Allen White possibly getting in. I know pretty much nobody is predicting him, but he's hot right now with The Bear and early reviews for The Iron Claw are great. I would love to see Dominic Sessa get in for The Holdovers. He's excellent. If it weren't for Jeremy Allen White, I would probably predict Sterling K. Brown for American Fiction. Another good bet is Willem Dafoe for Poor Things, but I think they might be satisfied with nominating just Ruffalo.

BEST SCREENPLAY

1. Poor Things
2. Oppenheimer
3. Barbie
4. The Holdovers
5. American Fiction
6. Killers of the Flower Moon

BEST ANIMATED

1. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
2. The Boy and the Heron
3. Elemental
4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
5. The Super Mario Bros Movie
6. Suzume

INTERNATIONAL FEATURE

1. Anatomy of a Fall
2. The Zone of Interest
3. Society of the Snow
4. The Taste of Things
5. Perfect Days
6. Fallen Leaves

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE

1. Oppenheimer
2. Killers of the Flower Moon
3. Poor Things
4. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
5. Society of the Snow
6. The Boy and the Heron

BEST ORIGINAL SONG

1. I'm Just Ken, Barbie
2. What Was I Made For, Barbie
3. Keep It Movin', The Color Purple
4. A World of Your Own, Wonka
5. Can't Catch Me Now, The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
6. Road to Freedom, Rustin

Unfortunately, Florence Pugh's two songs for A Good Person aren't remotely possible. Those are my favorite original songs this year. With Ace Up My Sleeve (Lord Huron, Ben Schneider) from The Starling Girl in third.

Hopefully JLaw gets in

May December being put in comedy is pretty ridiculous.

I haven't seen May December yet but I've heard it's fairly funny. I'm waiting to see it since it seems like it will be nominated for Picture at the Oscars. Then I'll be able to see it in theaters. One of my friends said it should be in comedy and another said it could go either way.

I think you have it predicted in the right category since I heard it’s going to be in comedy, though for me I didn’t see it as one at all

Ecstatic that Andrew Scott AND Barry Keoghan both got in. Also great to see both Barry and Rosamund making it.

Pretty shocking The Color Purple didn't get in for Song or Picture. Also surprising Wonka didn't get in for Song.

Poor for the Holdovers with no Payne and they could’ve given it more in other categories

The Color Purple gets left out of a category that nominated The Greatest Showman

Sadly McAdams misses and it would have been cool to see Efron

Given the strike, maybe Holdovers should have just waited to get released next year. The Barbenheimer phenomenon which steamrolled movies like MI this summer box office wise will do the same in awards seasons.

I'm feeling a ratings bonanza for the GG and Oscars given the frontrunners are also some of the most commercially successful awards contenders in a generation.

Curious how the ratings go on this as an indicator for the Oscars.

What is promising is Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve viewership went up 30% with 22.2M watching it.

If the Oscars can't pull big ratings with Barbie and Oppenheimer than they really have no hope.

Good to see Oppy clear up. Hopefully it doesn't lead to too much frontrunner backlash though.

Winners from the backlash syndrome never get remembered though like Crash, King’s Speech, and Moonlight, the only thing they’re remembered for is their upsets are the Oscars and less the movie itself. So who are the real winners?

Better speeches:

-Nolan for director win.
-Cillian Murphy had a very genuine and fun reaction to winning.
-Lily Gladstone understood the importance of her win and had a good speech.
-Paul Giamatti's nod to teachers was great.
-RDJ had a fun speech and Nolan acknowledging him in his shows reverence RDJ has in the industry.
-Billie Eilish had a good speech about Barbie but Margot/Greta's speech felt a bit meh. I felt like Kevin Costner/America Ferrara had the best Barbie moment of the night.

It feels like Barbie came through this worse off than going in. Oppenheimer steamrolling ahead.

Ya I'm kinda not banking on any surprise winners Oscar night. Ryan Gosling winning over Downey would be my pick but doubtful it happens.
