Surprising Best Supporting Actor. Critics Choice should be taken seriously as a predictor as they had Brian Tyree Henry and Judd Hirsch.

I heard about the Andrea Riseborough thing the last few weeks but I didn't believe it. I am glad she didn't knock out Michelle Williams.

I knew they were going to pick a random foreign director, may as well have thrown a dart between RRR, Triangle of Sadness, Decision To Leave, etc.

Triangle of Sadness got big support but no Dolly De Leon. Weird. Stephanie Hsu getting in though, so happy!

No huge snubs. No Davis or Deadwyler in actress, and no Dano in supporting actor, but they were never front runners anyway

As much as I want Yeoh to win, Cate is so good in Tar that I'm leaning in that direction as well.

Butler for actor. His buzz keeps going up and feel Fraser's has been peaking a bit.

For supporting actress, I think Jamie might surprise here. People in the industry love her and even if Hsu should win, voters might treat this like a lifetime achievement award.

3/4 of your acting wins are wrong. Especially Blanchett. They're not giving her a third oscar for Tar lol

I hope Yeoh wins. If she wins SAG I think that would seal it.

Angela Bassett seems like a lock to win.

The Triangle of Sadness love seems so random. The Menu did the same thing alot better. Yet I guess Triangle is a good film for rich people to judge other rich people, the same reason The White Lotus won so many emmys.

Top Gun missing Director, Actor and Cinematography probably ends its hope of a big win.

No black led movies in best picture. will this lead to controversy?

I do worry that Everything Everywhere will start to face frontrunner backlash, the likes of which made the academy do very silly things like pick King's Speech over Social Network.

So thrilled with Triangle getting Picture, Director and Screenplay. One of the year's best.

And Paul Mescal making it was fantastic. I screamed. :D

But Danielle Deadwyler not being nominated was a gut punch and taints all of the things the Academy did right.

Given that got the loudest reception during the Oscar nominations presentation, that category will definitely get lots of television attention. :funny:

I've never even heard of To Leslie. Such a random nomination.

But I'm pleased Top Gun: Maverick got recognition, even if it's unlikely it wins anything.

All-in-all it feels like the Oscars are back to awarding the best. Hopefully it is over its virtue signalling/pandering to pressure stage, highlighted by She Said, Till, The Woman King, and I Wanna Dance with Somebody getting nothing.

I still feel like they could snub giving Marvel an acting Oscar after not nominating BP2 in Picture. I don't think they will pick a random white girl like Condon over Bassett though after the Davis/Deadwyler snubs. It'd have to be minority for minority lateral move in Hsu. Maybe I could consider JLC.

Andrea Riseborough has been generating lots of A-listers pushing for her and hosting screenings to show the film. She could pull a surprise if her dark horse role generates more attention.

It's kinda crazy Michelle Williams got in for lead. I feel like she would fit as supporting and could've had a chance to win.

Field of 5 nominees most likely Everything Everywhere, Fabelmans, Banshees, Tar and Top Gun, with Ostlund the lone Director.

For the big awards I think EEAAO will sweep Picture, Director, Actress and Supporting Actor. I think the lack of Whale in Picture could hint Fraser won't win Actor, it's between him and Butler. And Bassett is winning Supporting Actress.

why are people saying that Farrell is not in contention for Actor when he has won more precursor awards than Butler or Fraser? Obviously they could win, but Farrell is at least ahead of Fraser, IMO, if not Butler.
