Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
Yeah I think Coda takes it. My own opinion aside, Dog always felt too weird to be a best picture winner. I know they love Campion but she will still have her night regardless. A feel-good woke dramedy makes a ton more sense. Coda and Will Smith will restore casual viewer's faith in the program.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
WB doesn't give a fuck about Nolan exit knowing they have DV in their pocket.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
Hope that was just a prank between Smith/Rock otherwise that's definitely going to taint a win tonight for Smith and his career. If for real could be a career ending move.
It looks like it was real though can't believe Smith wouldn't know any better.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
It looked like a joke until they bleeped the next several minutes of the broadcast.
But Will Smith isn't an insane person right? Cause only an insane person would do that.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
Apparently this is what happened:
Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith being in "G.I. Jane" because of her bald head. She's spoken openly about having a hair loss condition. Will Smith ran on stage, slapped Rock, then screamed twice at the top of his lungs "KEEP MY WIFE'S NAME OUT OF YOUR F-NG MOUTH."
Distasteful yes but can't see Smith the same way after an act like that. Completely tainted a likely win for him tonight.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
The camera operating either reacting with perfect timing or that slap was ob piously staged. Smith no doubt knows better.
Seems like an insanely scripted moment designed for social media impressions.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
And why would Will Smith want those type of social media reactions overshadowing his Best Actor win?

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
Unless they have a second bit later in the night where Rock gets revenge I don't see how they salvage it. People are gonna start thinking of him like Kanye after this.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
That will be received worse than the Tom Cruise jumping on a couch on Oprah moment. I would not be shocked if this puts back Aladdin 2. Disney won't want a family brand associated with Smith after that.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
It was real. Back stage clips show Smith crying and being comforted by Denzel and Tyler Perry.
Ehhhh. Rock made an utter ass out of himself with an epically unfunny joke. Smith did not handle it well but that wasn't funny whatsoever. Smith needs to apologize and move on.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
Smith's speech clearly realized he had gone too far.
He put the charm offensive on full but no apology to Chris Rock. That would have been a classy move.
Can't see how this doesn't impact the Smith brand. He kept his Aunt Viv grudge for almost 30 years. Feel like Denzel had an Uncle Phil moment for a guy who clearly has more maturing to do.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
Chastain played the game right all the way to the end, dedicating her win to the lgbtqa suicide victims.
Good for her though. Kristen deserved it this year, but Chastain deserved it ten years ago and got snubbed so I guess it all comes around.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
That was the most compelling Oscar acceptance speech of all time. I feel like this improves Will Smith’s brand more than tarnishes it, a lot of people will respect that he stood up for his wife.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
I remember the first time i saw him lose his cool yesrs ago when that european press guy gave him a kiss on the lips and Will Slapped him with good reason. But here on national t.v it was not good, that should have been handled backstage.
Still, the red table talk is gonna be good, lol.

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
Who thought playing Toto’s “Africa” from 1982 as Judas and the Black Messiah stars Daniel Kaluuya & H.E.R. walked out to present Best Supporting Actress was a good idea?!

Re: 2022 Oscars ceremony thread
The whole ceremony was a hot mess
The messy editing for the categories that were presented previous to the live show
"Africa" playing as two black presenters walk out
The bizarre in memoriam section with totally inappropriate music and a dog on stage (??)
Will Smith being on drugs and risking an assault charge and his rambling incoherent speech
The final Best Picture winning producer being cut off at the end only for more of the insufferable hosts
Liza Minelli being trotted out like a show pony about to be put down (Gaga sure loves to leech of literally dying stars doesn't she? They should call her a black hole)
Amy Schumer the Human Ham rudely disrespecting legend Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemmons should've smacked the shit out of her too
A movie no one watched winning Best Picture
Stick a fork in it, the ratings will probably be sub 5m this year
