Post Into the Oscar Abyss
Let's round up the actors/actresses who won an Oscar, and were never heard of again. This year, it's possible that Staunton will join them. Whether she wins or not, I doubt anyone will ever hear of her again. Oh wells.

Ok:

-That guy from Amadeus
-That guy who won for Quills. He's British, and the film starred Kate Winslet. Does anyone remember him? He's old too.

Well, I don't think anyone won from Quills, but do u mean Geoffry Rush, he was nominated and was the main actor in the movie and he's still pretty famous and sort of always was.

He just won a Golden Globe for playing Peter Sellers in the Life and Death of Peter Sellers.

Just for the record, the guy from Amadeus is F. Murray Abraham.

Yeah, Geoffry Rush is still very famous, a big draw, and making good movies like TPOC and Peter Sellers. For that matter, pretty much everyone in Quills are still doing well.

Louise Fletcher from one flew over the cuckoo's nest is probably a big one too. Also, are wee just talking leads or supporting too, cause there have been more of those I'm sure.

Oh Geoffry Rush had won before for Shine.

There are a lot of them in supporting category, especially supporting actress, since for supporting actor, they usually go with a career achievement award, while with supporting actress, they chose the young hot ones who didn't pan out afterward.

Jim Broadbent was recently in the film Vanity Fair, cast as a wealthy aristocrat!

Never heard of is a little bit harsh, but look what happened to Gwyneth Paltrow, Halle Berry and even Julia Roberts after they won. Their career has come to a stop. I would have said the same for Hilary Swan, but she rebounded nicely this year...

And the Bridget Jones films but alas, no nomination there.

I think he meant Tom Hulce
Also add Haing S Ngor who won best supporting actor role in 1985 in the only movie he ever acted in

Not from the Academy Awards...he won the Golden Satellite and BAFTA, but only a nod and win for Iris.

Some names that come to mind are Brenda Fricker and Helen Hunt (If we're talking about awards afterward.)

What about Mercedes Rhuel ( not even sure I spelled that right). She won for The Fisher King as best supporting actress then almost completely disappeared.

Yep. good performance for In The Bedroom. I'm one of the few people who thinks she deserved the previous nomination, not sure about the win.

Yep, I thought she was great in In The Bedroom too and deserved the nod. She also deserved the nod for MCV, imo, but probably not the win. She wasn't that good.

She deserved the win too dammit! What universe are you y'all from? Comedy roles never got the respect they deserve, she was great in that movie. Just like Mira Sorvino deserved the win for Mighty aphrodite. speaking of which....where the hell did she go. she did Romy and Michelle, and now where is she?

also Marlee Matlin..but then again, she can't speak, so I don't know how many roles there are out there for her. There are actually so many now that one thinks of it. Halle hasn't done good roles since then, but she's nowehere near off the radar.

Haw about Brody? he went from being everywhere to be unheard of in about 2 years!

Disagree. :) He was quite an unknown to most people before The Pianist, and he wasn't really that everywhere afterward, and he certainly hasn't become unheard. He just announced the oscar nominations together with the academy president, and who will forget The Kiss? He was featured in The Village, and he is still young. Similar to Jude Law, I don't think Brody will ever be a main leading draw at the box office, but he will be around contending for awards.
