Observations:

1. The Aviator and The Phantom of the Opera lead with 11 nominations each.

2. Million Dollar Baby didn't get nominated for Best Picture, Director, or Actor.

3. Some of the nominees are very bizarre. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is nominated for Visual Effects, but not for Screenplay. Leo is snubbed for Best Actor, even with 11 noms for The Aviator.

4. Finding Neverland only got 2 nominations, and Spanglish had merely 1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind had 3. Satellites aren't that relevant when coming to predict for the Oscar, but they do give an glimpse of the names and races, so I think Spanglish is dead for the best picture race. I never thought it was much in the race anyway.

5. Tons of technical nominations for House of Flying Daggers. It confirms my belief that it will get nominated in at least two technical categories at Oscar. Emi Wada is a given for Costume, and it's a strong contender for Cinematography and Art Direction as well.

Outstanding for Phantom of the Opera and The Aviator.......i really want both movies to score an Oscar nomination.......and their spots are looking better and better each time......

Fiinding Neverland didn't do well here with only 2 nominations......though i doubt it will hurt its chances since this is not a major critics award or anything.....

As Xiayun said, this is merely a "feeler" nomination list.....to see who is up and who has recognition at this early stage.....

This bodes very well for Phantom and The Aviator because they are now recognised as established contenders even before their actual release......

Wohooo.........fantastic stuff :D
