It was directed by Michael Bay and stars Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris. It was produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer and released through Hollywood Pictures. Loved this movie. The action was great and the performances were awesome. Sean Connery was fantastic and Nic Cage held his own. They made a good duo. Kudos must be given to Ed Harris also. He played the villan with noble intentions role well. A

It's the best action movie of the '90s. It also uses the location to perfection. Also, how can you not love Sean Connery in a James Bond type role once again long after he retired from the part? Great film.

This movie is an epitome of what a great action movie should be in my opinion. Not only is it my favorite pure action flick ever, it also resides in my all-time Top 5 (!). I can't ever get enough of the film which I ave seen for about 9-10 times already and it has never bored me. The storyline might not be any special or great, but it is enough and not too ridiculous to deter from the enjoyment of the movie. The movie serves as an amazing example of how entertaining action flicks should be made. Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery make a great buddy couple and complement itself perfectly. The humor is there and there is plenty of it, the one-liners are cool, the action is breathtakingly well shot. Despite a running time of over 130 minutes, it never bores me for a second as the pacing is pitch-perfect. There is no overexcess of action, but also never too little of it. Seeing Sean Connery back in action is amazing and despite his age, he still made a great action star. There are so many great and memorable action scenes in this one...Classic actioner! I can't praise it often enough.

Oh and knowing the general anti-Michael Bay attitude online, I assure you that my review above is not a joke by any means. I really love the movie.

Seriously, this film is one of the five most rewatchable ever. I never get bored. Much better than all action flicks made nowadays...

Solid 90s action film, with a great intro to the Cage Bruckheimer combo. Connery and Harris and Michael Beihn were great in it.

Incredibly entertaining in a mind-polluting way.

One of the greatest action films of the 1990's. I have seen this film countless times and it never gets old. The action scenes are incredibly memorable (the car chase in San Francisco is one of my all-time favorite scenes), the one-liners are fantastic, and the acting is great all around (Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage are both brilliant)- featuring the best supporting cast I have ever seen in an action film- including the late, great John Spencer. Wonderful cinematography and music further compliment one of my all-time favorite films. This is Michael Bay's best movie BY FAR. A+

Never been a huge action guy, but I liked this quite a lot. Michael Bay's best I'd say.
Sean Connery just rocks. The character of Mason is without a doubt, one of the coolest convicts and smarter than he looks badasses to ever be in one of these action extravaganzas.
I kind of liked the characters and actors in general in this film, Cage, Connery, and even Harris as the villain made the characters likeable, something too many of these movies miss out on. The screenplay isn't brain intriguing stuff, but for an action film its just about perfect, lots of great lines between the two. Bay obviously knows his action direction, and I think this shows that with adequate acting and screenplay, he can make good to great films.

Michael Bay's best movie and one of the best action films of its decade. I just like to pretend Sean Connery is playing Bond again.

Watched this for the first time since it's release. Holds up pretty well even though its a bit long.
Did anyone notice that Pirates of the Carribean contained nearly the same score? It might have been the dvd quality, but I could not hear anyone speak so I had to turn up the volume higher than normal, but then the SFX/Score continue to drown out all the voices.
Anyway, solid B.
