 Superman (2025)
Quote: Superman is a 2025 American superhero film based on the eponymous character from DC Comics. Written and directed by James Gunn, it is the first film in the DC Universe (DCU) produced by DC Studios and the second reboot of the Superman film series. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent / Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. The film follows Superman's journey to reconcile his alien heritage with his adoptive human family.
Superman premiered at the TCL Chinese Theater on July 7, 2025, and was released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on July 11. It is the first film of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

 Re: Superman (2025)
I liked it overall. Don't really think it's as strong as Gunn's other superhero films unfortunately (I guess its better than Guardians 2 lol).
David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan are great.

A
LOVED how different it is to any other Superman movie before. It’s so much fun & hopeful. Heartwarming and thrilling. Goofy & hilarious. James Gunn nailed it again. 5 for 5 superheroes films.

 Re: Superman (2025)
Its different alright. And its trademark Gunn - only slightly restrained but still unavoidably a Gunn production. Not sure if that sensibility works for a Superman film but i guess it needed to be different from what came before.
Actors are very good and there are plenty of fun moments but im mixed on it right now due to the tone and the fact Supes gets his ass kicked for a good chunk of the film.
Will need to mull it over some more.

 Re: Superman (2025)
Gunn and company did the most important thing when starting a new franchse - create a world that is intoxicating to be a part of. I probably would have seen it again right after if it was possible. I didn't love every choice in the movie, but I was 100% with it the entire time. There isn't a boring second in the film, even the ultra corny "you make me proud" scene from the somehow still alive Pa Kent serves its purpose well.
Krypto is obviously the mvp though. Arf arf!

 Re: Superman (2025)
Loved it! Only part I didn’t like was Mr Terrific was kind of a dull character for the amount of screen time he got, and I kind of lost interest a bit in the middle of the film as a result. But Gunn really knows how to direct a comic book film. He knows how to have humor stem organically from characters and situations as well as how to make zany elements from the comics work in live action.

 Re: Superman (2025)
Saw it again last night. I think the highs of the film are very high but idk. It's fine to just go with the film as we know Superman's origins and what not but idk, I do feel like I would have liked to see this Superman starting. For some reason I didn't mind it in The Batman but I guess here it feels more jarring like starting a TV show in the middle of its run.

 Re: Superman (2025)
I love that they just dropped us into the middle of the story. We've spent the last twenty years with franchise movies that are obsessed with world building. Superman's world is already built and lived in. We're just lucky to be a part of it.

It's fine. The cast is the best part, all three of the leads are great and I thought Sara Sampiano was a standout supporting character. She was hilarious. B-

Yeah I laughed much harder at her character than I care to admit, the actress is talented.

 Re: Superman (2025)
Saw it again. Still a 10. Will see it a third time before it leaves. Two small things I would change;
1) the dog barking at the kaiju looks too much like krypto
2) while symbolically important, Paw Kents "Im so p-p-p-proud of you" scene doesnt hit. I never understood why Costner would let the tornado kill him when Clark couldve easily saved him without giving away his secret. Now I know it was to avoid doing something so corny as this.

 Re: Superman (2025)
The best thing is that we didn't have to sit through another origin story.
They did the right thing starting where they did.
Sara Sampiano was good, and I surprisingly liked Mr Terrific. His action scene and most of his scenes with Lois were great.

 Re: Superman (2025)
I am not a fan. While it sports some nice moments and visuals, I had a hard time ever getting into the film. It's too much all over the place, there's a lot of characters, some better, some worse, and in turn not that much Superman. Also this Superman, while we see a range of his powers, most of the set pieces are only about him exerting his strength and he doesn't win much or needs a lot of help from others getting there. The start of the film is pretty great though, we get right into story, the opening scroll works well and I also enjoyed the introduction of Krypto. Then into his first on screen fight with the Hammer of Boravia, the film is definitely enjoyable, but it stops working for me after that. The whole Boravia-Jarhanpur angle feels both simple and so much a direct copy of the Russia-Ukraine conflict that it feels uncreative and trying hard to be political. So it seems to me they didn't have a good story to go with here and then also used, a lot of been there, done that CGI sequences to fill up the runtime. Then about Corenswet, he's a pretty good Clark, quite enjoy him in those scenes, but comes across unimposing as Superman. His arc didn't win me over and it's basically a messy film that doesn't get going. Also about the Kent's, well I guess you could only go down from Costner and Lane, but the couple in this have simply no screen presence at all. I had a better time with this film when it involved Green Lantern, Hawkgirl and Mr. Terrific, there's some good humor with them that bring fun to the screen.
