Back to the Future
Back to the FutureQuote: Back to the Future is a 1985 American science-fiction comedy film. It was directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale, produced by Steven Spielberg, and starred Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover and Thomas F. Wilson. The film tells the story of Marty McFly, a teenager who is accidentally sent back in time from 1985 to 1955. He meets his future-parents in high school and accidentally attracts his future-mother's romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his parents-to-be to fall in love, and with the help of scientist Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown, he must find a way to return to 1985.
Zemeckis and Gale wrote the script after Gale mused upon whether he would have befriended his father if they attended school together. Various film studios rejected the script until the financial success of Zemeckis' Romancing the Stone, after which the project was set up at Universal Pictures with Spielberg as an executive producer. Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly when Michael J. Fox was busy filming the TV series Family Ties. However, during filming, Stoltz and the filmmakers decided that he was miscast, so Fox was approached again and he managed to work out a timetable in which he could give enough time and commitment to both; the subsequent recasting meant the crew had to race through reshoots and post-production to complete the film for its July 3, 1985 release date.
When released, Back to the Future became the most successful film of the year, grossing more than $380 million worldwide and receiving critical acclaim. It won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film, as well as Academy Awards, and Golden Globe nominations among others. Ronald Reagan even quoted the film in his 1986 State of the Union Address. In 2007, the Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry, and in June 2008 the American Film Institute's special AFI's 10 Top 10 acknowledged the film as the 10th-best film in the science fiction genre. The film marked the beginning of a franchise, with sequels Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III released in 1989 and 1990, as well as an animated series, theme park ride, and several video games.

Fantastic flick. One of my favorites. Great performances, clever screenplay, and hilarious lines. Some great effects work too. One of the most innovative and entertaining films of all-time.

It was hilarious when his mom called him Calvin, and when Marty asked her why she called him that, she said, "That's what it says on your underwear, Calvin Klein."
Although the part about skateboards was historically incorrect as skateboards were around before 1955, just not popular, but it was great seeing Biff eat manure.

Incredibly enjoyable! One of my favorite movie series ever. I saw this when it came out at theaters, as I was about the age that Michael J. Fox was supposed to be as Marty, and this movie was HUGE. I loved the whole trilogy, with the 2nd one being my favorite, much like Empire Strikes Back was. Biff was just the best!

One of my fav's, watch it at least twice a year
best lines
Marty:Wait a minute, Doc. Ah... Are you telling me you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean?
Doc.:The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?
Biff:What are you looking at butthead?
Doc.:Marty, I'm sorry. But the only power source capable of generating 1.21 gigawatts of electricity is a bolt of lightning.
Easily in my top 20 films

Just rewatched the trilogy cause a friend of mine had never seen them and that had to be rectified.
Still as fresh and brilliant as the first time I saw it, it's the pinnacle of popcorn cinema

Re: Back to the Future
The first one was really really good.
The next 2 were progressively sillier (with all the coincidences) and actually kind of creepy. (leah thomas plays his great great grandmother in the wild west..... from the McFLY family.... So.... the McFly family is full of inbreds, then?)

Beautifully constructed time travel screenplay...

Re: Back to the Future
I'm not sure what Algren was thinking, but since he doesn't seem to post here anymore, it doesn't matter. What I do know is this. Everytime I see this film, as I get older, it keeps getting better and better. When I first saw the film, I loved the time travel aspect to it. Who wouldn't? Then as I got a little bit older, I liked the the '80s and '50's jokes. Last night I watched the film again for the umpteenth time, and the thing that got me this time around, was the interplay between Marty and his parents. Zemeckis could've done two things with this. He could've made the relationships jokey and unbelieveable. Instead, he does the exact opposite. He makes the realtionships between Marty and his parents as believeable as they could possibly be. I think (with the exception of the scenes with Doc) that the one-on-one scenes that Marty has with parents, are the best scenes in the film.
One feeling remains the same from when I first saw the film. Back to the Future is perfect entertainment. No matter how many times you see the film, you can always take something new away from it.
A+
One more thing: I haven't watched new episodes from Family Guy in a couple of years. A couple of weeks ago, I happened to catch an episode on Adult Swim, and there is an episode that is a homage to Back to the Future. I think it was from back in '06, which I think was during their "dark period". I'm not sure if anywhere here has seen that episode, but that was easily one of the best episodes I've seen from that show, and one of the best homages I've seen in sometime. I just might have to start watching that show again.

Gee, how many A's. Enjoyable, but nothing more. B/B+ The ending reeks of bourgeoisie.

Tsk tsk tsk, that's just something I noticed and it doesn't affect my grade. Well, maybe just a little, the reason I'm not sure about giving it that "+". Besides that, (almost?) everyone judges movies following also their political ideas. Didn't you trash Death Sentence because it was a fascist crap?
