Re: Despicable Me 4
An improvement over the 3rd film, but the plot is very sitcommy and feels like a way to loosely tie together a bunch of sometimes amusing, sometimes not, scenes. There’s no real continuity from film to film with this franchise. Not bad, but ready for this franchise to be over.

Yeah the script is quite lazy, there is barely a story, but some of the sequences work pretty well anyway. I liked the school heist and the market chase scene alot. The minions are funny as usual. Stunning that they make very inefficient superheroes. And Polly was a surprisingly loveable character. I was sitting there just waiting for her to betray Gru the entire time and she never does it, she just becomes another apprentice and is much less annoying than Dru was. Besides that ... eh. I didn't think the baby was needed since they already have 3 children who are perfectly kidnappable. Though the grump facial expressions did make me laugh a few times.
I'll give Despicable Me 4 a 6.5 / 10.
Also, whoever did the soundtrack was clearly a guitar hero 3 fan. "Hot For Teacher" and "Through the Fire and Flames" don't fit this movie at all but I still liked hearing them.

Re: Despicable Me 4
This had to be the easiest paycheck Mike White has earned. I can’t remember the last time a movie wanted to wrap up so quickly. It barely has a third act.
Also, I know Will Ferrell is hit or miss with a lot of people, but I think they’d even agree he’s wasted here. This gave him and Sofia Vergara absolutely nothing to do. This also had to be the easiest paycheck they’ve ever earned.
But it made me laugh. The first two-third’s are just non-stop gags. If they had tried to land the ending this could’ve been good. Instead it’s just fine.
2.5/5
