 Re: Anyone but You
The chemistry between the leads is good. Its a pretty average romcom overall though, wish it was more zanier.

 Re: Anyone but You
Enjoyed this one more than I thought i would. Sidney really does feel like a huge breakout star here, being an impossibly gorgeous model while also a dorky girl next door. Major Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston vibes. Perfect for this genre. Powell is also great here, but he's been on a role lately and didn't need to prove anything. I figured the chemistry of the two leads would carry this, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered watching, but they both above and beyond. And the movie is actually pretty funny too. No, not in the times where it has zany hijinks, those are pretty basic, but there are just a bunch of great one-liners, ala a Tina Fey production. My favorite was the old Australian guy who kept saying things like "when I liked a girl, I would sneak up behind her, cut off a lock of her hair and then smack her on the bum!"
I'll give Anyone But You a 7.9/10. Another winner for the year 2023.

 Re: Anyone but You
The stakes feel pretty low to me, at worst they still get to have a nice vacation where everyone is mostly chill and friends with each other, and if their lie got caught it wouldn't be a big deal. The other man/other woman don't feel like much of threats. Still Will Gluck is a solid director giving it a visual flow that's nice enough to watch and it has a solid soundtrack. I like bringing back the 90s Shakespeare romcom trope, when they started started doing the fake overheard conversations it felt like the little side character scenes he'd do. Sweeney and Powell are pretty charming overall. Mid romcom but I guess I'll take it.

 Re: Anyone but You
Great film, just caught it on Netflix. While it plays like a 2000's throwback rom-com, it also feels fresh because we hardly get these kind of films anymore and it has a likable modern cast. It's totally funny, romantic and sexy and tailor made for a millennial like me. Excellent use of the song Unwritten, it just does everything right from start to finish, I had such a good time with it. Really glad this did well financially too as we'll hopefully keep seeing more of Powell, Sweeney and Gluck because of it.
