I suppose it's expected that a stand-up comedian will use his first lead vehicle as a stage routine, and that's fine - but it needs to be funny. I generally like Chris Rock. He's good in Lethal Weapon 4 and I have liked his input in interviews about comedy (even his standup is decent), but here his material is dead. Wanda Sykes even outshines him in a supporting role.

As for the film, it's the usual 'what-if' of swapping of a black man for a [usually rich] white man, a la Trading Places. The 'second chance at life' theme also feels tired as it prefers focusing on the differences between the races. Down to Earth is a remake anyway, and there are better films on the subject such as Ghost Town.
