The Last Duel (2021)
Quote: The Last Duel is a 2021 historical drama film directed and produced by Ridley Scott. It is based on the book of the same name by Eric Jager, with a screenplay by Nicole Holofcener, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon. The film stars Damon as Jean de Carrouges, a knight who challenges his friend and squire Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver) to a duel after Carrouges's wife, Marguerite (Jodie Comer), accuses Le Gris of raping her. Affleck also stars in a supporting role as Count Pierre d'Alençon.
An adaptation of Jager's book was first announced in 2015, though it was not officially greenlit until July 2019. Affleck and Damon were confirmed as stars and co-writers that month, with Comer and Driver joining the cast later that year. Filming took place in France and Ireland from February to October 2020, with a hiatus of several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Last Duel had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 10, 2021 and was theatrically released in the United States on October 15, 2021, by 20th Century Studios. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised the performances.

Same here. This was surprisingly good with great performances throughout. Even with repeated scenarios it never felt boring or dull even though it starts off a little iffy but finds its footing one it moves to act two.

Re: The Last Duel (2021)
Very good film, through it's 3-viewpoint structure, it creates a very interesting and engaging tale of feudal intrigue. Scott has made better films, and also worse films, this definitely belongs somewhere in the top half. The acting and production design is great. And though the story is a bit primitive, perhaps like the time in which it's set, it's thoroughly enjoyable.

This was very interesting, but I would've cut away during the rape rather than show a several minute long scene of it twice. I don't see how showing it did anything to improve the film, its storytelling or character development.

The rape scene is a bit jarring to watch, but very well acted and I thought it was interesting to see how the perspective of it was even just slightly different between Driver and Comer's characters.

I thought this was great. Normally not a fan of mult-POV type films but this worked well. Performances and production values top notch.
The type of film we sadly do not enough of these days.

Re: The Last Duel (2021)
This was pretty solid. It helps that the duel delivers big time, and Ben Affleck was fantastic in his small role. Comer did great and showed she should be a movie star. Matt Damon's character changing so much in all three POVs was interesting. I thought it might have been more interesting if the Le Gris version was "I didn't do anything" as he would have told the trial. As they played it there's not much mystery to what happened it's just he thought no means yes.
