Fear Street Part Three: 1666 is an upcoming American supernatural horror film, and the final installment of the Fear Street trilogy. It is directed by Leigh Janiak, who co-wrote the screenplay with by Phil Graziadei and Kate Trefry. Based on the book series of the same name by R. L. Stine, the plot follows the origins of the Shadyside, Ohio curse and the witch trials that started it all.

Produced by Chernin Entertainment, a film adaptation of Fear Street began development at 20th Century Studios in 2015, with Janiak hired in 2017. Filming for the trilogy took place back-to-back from March to September 2019 in Georgia, with the intention of a theatrical release in June 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney, Chernin Entertainment ended their distribution deal with 20th Century Studios and sold distribution rights to Netflix in August 2020.

The first two films, Part One: 1994 and Part Two: 1978, were released by the streamer the previous two weeks. The film is scheduled to be released by Netflix on July 16, 2021.

Highly entertaining and crowd-pleasing, particularly the last 45 minutes or so that bring everything full circle. The climax is a fucking blast. B+

1) Priest does horrible things to a bunch of children

2) Religious kookers take no responsibility and instead persecute gays and minorities.

Checks out.

Jokes aside, this was the best of the trilogy by far. It’s so good that it makes the other two better in retrospect.

I thought the ending was perfect, but if they make more I’ll keep watching.

Netflix really pulled off something special with this rapid-release trilogy. They could have easily made it into a 6-8 episode miniseries and put it out, get some good reviews, and have it fade into the rest of their infinite content. Instead they tried something new (I know Small Axe did something similar, but I don't believe those films were connected) and it paid off. 1666 felt like a big event when I was gearig up to watch it and then it played out like the blockbuster it was. The past events would have been enough to put it over the top, I was so damn outraged during the first half of this movie, and showing us how "real people" can be just as bad, if not worse, than witches, ghosts, zombies, etc.. hit me hard. Then it takes an additional step, adding a multi-century gaslighting element, a town full of prosperity directing feeding off a town full of misfortune. The entire story then becomes about not just stopping spooky events, but making right an all-timer injustice. Coming back to 1994, I was ready for battle and Fear Street gave me exactly that. It shows how easily history can become corrupted, but also that it is never to late to try and fix the wrongs of the past. You can't go back and save anyone from the atrocities of our early settlers, but we can still try and tell their stories as they were instead of just what makes us feel better at night.

This was surprisingly really good. Even the period part of the story that I thought would be kind of boring was pretty interesting. And the 1994 part was way more involving than it was in the first movie.

A very satisfying conclusion.

Why comment and not give it a grade in the poll? :-)
