Quote:
Garfield: The Movie, also known as Garfield, is a 2004 American live-action film based on the Jim Davis comic strip With the same name. In the film, Garfield the cat was created with computer-generated imagery, though all other animals were real. The film was originally to be produced in 2D by 20th Century Fox Animation, but duties were transferred to Davis Entertainment and 20th Century Fox.

The film was directed by Peter Hewitt, produced by Davis Entertainment for 20th Century Fox, and stars Breckin Meyer as Jon Arbuckle, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Dr. Liz Wilson, and features Bill Murray as the voice of Garfield.

The film was released in the United States on June 11, 2004. Reviews of the movie were generally very mixed, although Murray's voice work received some positive notices. Murray has claimed that he only took part because he was under the misguided impression the screenplay, actually written by Joel Cohen, was the work of Joel Coen.

Awful is pretty much the only way to describe Garfield.

One of the worst of '04.

Not the worst of 2004, but comes pretty close. Terrible animation, non-existant acting and just a couple of funny moments.

After having had the displeasure of seeing it again at some friend's house, I am lowering my grade to a D+. I am already dreading the sequel. Why, Bill Murray, why?!

Post Re: Garfield
I remember enjoying this back when it came out. I would have never saw it if not for my four year old brother. I rewatched it yesterday with my son, and it holds up. Part of its appeal is its pace, and it only goes on for 73 minutes sans credits. It's nice, nippy, and humorous franchise starter. And Jennifer Love-Hewitt was so fucking smoking hot, it's unreal how sexy she was - she's all teeth and eyes. It's a shame that actresses like her have an expiry date. Unless you do fandom franchises or star in a few prestige pictures, the frivolous movies just don't have the staying power or nostalgia to propel a latter-day career.
