Re: The Taking of Deborah Logan
Yes, another found-footage genre film, this one produced or at least "presented" by Bryan Singer. It is nowhere near the best of the sub-genre (The Blair Witch Project), but nowhere near the worst, even this year (V/H/S: Viral, The Pyramid). The most notable aspect may be a sound and almost poignant dramatic foundation: a documentary crew comes to a remote house to film the day-to-day life of an elderly woman with Alzheimer's and her adult daughter and caregiver, but they may have misinterpreted more sinister circumstances as mental illness. The characters ring true, and there are details (such as the daughter's lesbianism and the indication it is a point of contention between she and her old-school mother) which may be extraneous, but also enhance the sense these are real lives with complications and dynamics beyond what we see on the screen. The jolts range from low-brow bursts of loud noise to a few truly creepy, indelible images, including a human being's mouth opening extremely wide to devour prey, a la snakes.

I thought this was a solid entry into the found-footage genre. It was interesting with some creepy moments.
