DARK SKIES
I enjoyed the picture overall. It created a lot of tense moments. The little boy was a bit over the top for me at times. I thought Keri Russell was good in this film. She has a nice beauty about her. I thought the husband was believable but the same type of character we've seen in films like PA who don't face the reality of the situation until the very end. Speaking of the end, I thought it was a reasonable ending for the film. I enjoyed the alien sequences in the film. The final moments were quite cryptic.

So, I kind of loved this. It was quite creepy and very entertaining. Sad it will go unnoticed.

8/10 Agree. It was actually really good. Wish it had experienced the kind of success Mama did because it's a much better movie with well-defined characters.

Re: Dark Skies
It's very similar in content and form to stuff like Insidious and Sinister, albeit not nearly as well-crafted or spooky (though there were a far few decent scares in this one), as Scott Stewart simply isn't that good a director. But it's still entertaining and interesting enough, mostly due to the strength of its cast and the power of its visuals, even if its politics become somewhat disconcerting. The last act also recalls Signs a little bit too much for my liking, as the Shyamalan film did the "board up the house and protect the kids from the invading aliens" thing much better.
But I enjoyed it, at least.

Re: Dark Skies
Damn I was surprised that this wasn't awful. Quite solid actually.
Much better than crap like The Fourth Kind.

Re: Dark Skies
A bit more capable on a technical level than I expected, and it has decent acting (for the genre) and two or three well-staged suspense sequences, but it is just not very satisfying in the end. Often it plays as an inferior variation on Signs, a film it at times resembles beat for beat, including the melancholy, remember-the-good-times dinner-table conversation on the eve of the final invasion.

Dark Skies
Formulaic horror build-up and ending, but where these films usually have a scary antagonist, Dark Skies replaces that with aliens. And screw you if you want to actually see the aliens. They let you see silhouettes of them for about 20 seconds, then the film ends. Nicely shot film, but the script is pretty weak.
