This film is so good. Just got the Blu-Ray and already watched it two times and I liked it even more. There is so much to appreciate about this movie and I can't remember the last time I was this fascinated by the cinematography. Such a beautiful movie to watch.

I've seen each of them five times in theatres. I am pretty sure my opinion is very set on both.

Re: Skyfall
TDKR was a well made film but not fun...
It was a very bloated film.
I am not saying Skyfall is a better made film.
I am saying it was a much more entertaining film.

TDKR was forgettable. Skyfall is a masterpiece.

Re: Skyfall
TDKR had the better "zing! That character you've been watching all this time was actually a really important figure in the universe's mythology!" moment, so I'd pick that one.

Re: Skyfall
Yeah, I enjoyed The Dark Knight Rises at the cinema, but it was just completely average and forgettable. When I came out, I was more interested in counting the bricks in the pavement than remembering the films' "money shots".
Can't say the same for Skyfall. I was thinking about Skyfall for days after. It was beautifully composed, visually, artistically and aurally.

Re: Skyfall
Magnus wrote: Whats great about Skyfall is that it manages to be a self-reflection of the Bond franchise while at the same time very much being a Bond film. CR fails in the latter department for me because to me, if the main character's name wasn't James Bond, you really wouldn't think of it as a James Bond film. Skyfall though has enough elements of a Bond film to be a Bond film regardless of the character's name, yet still manages to be self-reflective and unique in its own right.
The cinematography from Deakins is fantastic, creating a sense of coolness to the film. The shots in Shanghai are just beautiful to look at and as I previously mentioned, the fight on top of the building is one of the most beautifully shot sequences in a Bond film. And the shot of Javier in front of the burning house is just a purely epic shot.
Speaking of Javier, he probably is the x-factor in this film that makes it from a good to great film. He takes over the screen just with his presence. He's a villain you can root for. Similar to 006 in Goldeneye, he plays the "betrayed agent" angle superbly and acts as a perfect foil to Bond. But what makes him really great is how he recognizes the game he and Bond play and the ridiculousness of it. He's enjoying himself throughout the entire movie, even in his death (the little "ARG" he does after Bond throws the knife at him is perfect). His character had to die for story purposes, but it's a damn shame he did because he will be hard to top.
And as previously mentioned, it really takes from Nolan's Batman. The whole "Bond goes away for a while then comes back and has to get back in shape" feels just like TDKR (this was likely unintentional considering the timing of filming between the two films). Bond's back story is similar to Bruce's and the fact that he burns down his childhood home feels like BB. The escape scene feels just like the Joker escape scene in TDK. The fact that Javier dresses as a cop and tries to assassinate a public official feels just like Joker doing the same in TDK. And Jaiver's character in general feels like the Joker. It is possible that they weren't trying to rip Batman but the similarities between the two are hard to ignore.
There a minor issues with the film I had and I do wonder whether its the kind of film I'll enjoy watching a 2nd time through (the Javier scenes I definitley will but everything outside of that I don't know). But overall, it's a great film. It's essentially is exactly how I would imagine a Nolan Bond being (though I think that one probably have one aerial action sequence).

Re: Skyfall
I agree with the comparison of TDK and Skyfall.
What Skyfall does is make a more dark and gritty film but still keeps it fun and entertaining unlike TDKR

I almost fell asleep during this movie. The only thing to keep me awake was the fact that I never fall asleep during movies; an unshakeable phenomenon that was yet again confirmed while watching this utterly boring and forgettable waste of time.

That's crazy, nothing puts me as well to sleep as movies even great ones, when I'm at least a little bit tired.

Sometimes you are really tired and its late and you got tired and fall asleep. I was watching Goldfinger a few weeks ago and I feel asleep but it was late. I watched the rest tomorrow morning and it was great

Re: Skyfall
Through boredom I've not fell asleep in any movie. Through tiredness, about 10, and I feel really guilty and try not to blame the movie at all.
