That's crazy, nothing puts me as well to sleep as movies even great ones, when I'm at least a little bit tired.

It depends on the purpose and intention. If I watch a movie mainly to put me to sleep, it works of course. But if actually intend to watch a movie all the way through - which most often is the case and also was with Skyfall - I don't fall asleep; no matter how boring it is or how tired I am. It can result in a pretty torturous and almost hallucinogenic experience, however, almost falling asleep is as far as it gets.

Rewatching it, i really liked it, but there's nothing to it.

There really isn't. The plot honestly probably took them 20 minutes to come up with.

The same can be said for any blockbuster movie. What, you think that The Avengers storyline is so unique? or The Dark Knight even?

The same cannot be said for any blockbuster movie. Skyfalls plot "a former agent decided to kill M....theres this list of agents out there ala MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, but...we forget about it half way through the movie when we learn the bad guy doesnt give a fuck about it, he only cares about this totally over the top scheme to kill M".

There's just nothing clever here. There is no "OMG! Joker has Dent AND Rachel rigged to explosives!" followed by "OMG! HE TOLD BATMAN THE WRONG ADDRESS! RACHELS A GONER!". There's nothing even remotely clever.

Because it is so simple, it has no "omg that would never ever happen/wtf is this shit" moments ala QOS or any of the Brosnan films. But it's not smart enough to really be anything beyond above average.

That is why everybody saying it's the best Bond ever is on crack. Goldfingers plot is actually ingenius. Skyfall's bad guys plot is just...retarded.

Your definition of 'clever' is incredibly basic. Still, I suppose you're easily satisfied if The Dark Knight is clever to you.

Two people rigged to explosives. The villain lying and giving the wrong address. This is madness. I've never seen this cleverness before on film!

Skyfall couldn't come close to topping the "incredibly basic", so wahtevs

But I never said Skyfall was clever. I was just ridiculing you for you low standards of what qualifies as 'clever entertainment'.

Skyfall

Very rarely do I feel proud to be British, but whenever I watch Skyfall I do. Beautifully and simply shot, well executed, raw espionage thriller with slight comedic dollops throughout. All of the movie is fantastic, but from when Bardem lands in London until the end of the movie is just riveting. Skyfall is now one of the only Bond movies that I can fully respect and take seriously as a piece of motion picture art. Goldeneye is a great film, and perhaps my second favourite, but it doesn't come close to Skyfall. Everything fits and comes full circle in this film. Sublime.

Still the best movie of 2012.

A simple linear plot structure makes this work well as an entertaining actioner. It's not memorable. But it manages to be exciting throughout within the confines of a Bond movie setting.

Some remakes don't even borrow as much from another film as SKYFALL does THE DARK KNIGHT.

A beautiful movie that somewhat falters in its third act (and Albert Finney sucks). But definitely my favorite Bond film. I remember being so hyped when I saw Sam Mendes as director in the opening credits. He's good.

B+. Good but not amazing, better than POS, more enjoyable than CR, though not as clever. My favorite of the craig bonds, but due to the universal acclaim, i am kind of disappointed.

The only reason people are comparing this to 'The Dark Knight' is because it is a clear, blatant rip off in many areas. Bardems character pretty much is the Joker. His whole plan involves himself "getting caught" so he can get on the inside and screw things up. His whole plan revolves around messing with M, while Jokers was Batman. But it frankly has half the emotion of TDK on it's own, half the action, and is half as memorable. The Dark Knight, moreso than any other movie in the 2000s, was a film that everybody remembers. Nobody shut up about it. SKYFALL is not quite like that. When Joker says "you're going to have to play my little game if you want to save one of them"...there is that "Ah HAH!" moment that is also full of dread. There are no such moments like that in this movie. Given the wide spread acclaim and constant TDK comparisons, I was slightly let down. There really, in many ways, just isn't much to this movie.

Its a good, engaging movie. It is a massive step up from POS. As a film, in terms of story telling, it is a step below Casino Royale just because the plot in this one is extremely simple. There is no 'Bond heartbreak' or elaborate Le Chife being a terrorist banker & gambling their money scheme going on. Some ex double-0 agent is randomly very rich & very upset with M. But, at the same time, being so simple makes a tad easier to follow & more enjoyable. Had this film not been so well acted and directed, this same script could have resulted in a very bad movie. It is, however, well acted and well directed. It is an enjoyable movie that I recommend seeing, but I dont think its a top 5 Bond. There just frankly is not a whole lot to it. It moves fast for being so long, but it weirdly feels like there is not a whole lot going on.

Spoiler: show
seriously, the guy is just trying to kill M - that is the whole plot. No big scheme to screw england or whatever. M, who everybody is saying needs to get ready for retirement anyway. sorry, but there is little emotional attachment to her character to make the ending overly effective. It works, but its not half as good as vespers death. So in that sense, I just dont see what all the fuss was about. ButThe home alone-style ending was cool.

I enjoyed seeing it, but also feel the mass praise is overrated. Nothing from this movie should merrit any attention from the academy, for example.

Still stand by this.

Much better than Quantum of Solace, beautiful movie from a cinematography and directing standpoint. Casino Royale had a much more intriguing setup IMO with the poker game though. Still this didn't feel like a generic action movie like QoS did
