I'm surprised how well this did overseas. I want to check it out, sounds like it'll be decent.

Re: In Time
It is not the greatness of Gattaca but I enjoyed this film a lot and the whole cast really works well. Definitely enjoyed where they explored the element of time here. ***1/2

Re: In Time
This movie is not your usual popcorn entertainment or as advertised. Director and writer Andrew Niccol has something to say about his perceived social Darwinism in today's economic system. And he presents his idea as an analogy through the film medium. While I do not totally agree with his views, I admire his earnestness and brave attempt to bring a thought-provoking story to a visually rich medium.
"In Time" is an example of intellectual storytelling done right. I would compare it to The Matrix. There have been so many other movies that do not pay respect to their supposedly intellectual stories/source materials. They either overlook the underlying message or take something out of the context. Minority Report and Children of Men come to mind (what a waste!).
I give it to Andrew Niccol and the Wachowski Brothers for their genuineness in storytelling.

Oh, wait, let me add something:
It was mind-numbingly, laughably BAD.
Now, Bradboy, you can take that quote, roll it and put it up yours truly.

Re: In Time
This has an awesome concept but just takes the most generic way to tell it. Using Timberlake (God bless him he tries, is too limited for this kind of film) Subplots are lost and any issues it picks up is just as quickly thrown away.
Still the concept is fun most of the time to make it passable. C

Re: In Time
Total garbage. Every line of dialogue is a pun about time. It's cute sometimes, but Niccol obviously doesn't know what moderation means anymore. I'm ready to declare him a one hit wonder.

Re: In Time
Was the one hit Gattaca, Lord of War, or writing The Truman Show?

Re: In Time
Considering Gattaca and Lord of War both flopped pretty badly, Truman Show seems like the best bet.

Are we now determining quality by financial returns?

Re: In Time
Not at all, but the word "hit" usually means success wise. But this is easily the worst film he's been involved in. Even Simone

Flava'd was obviously not using "hit" in the conventional financial sense.

Re: In Time
David is correct. I admit I have not seen Lord of War and forgot about Truman Show. The one hit was Gattaca, referring to its cult popularity. And being really good.

Re: In Time
What a waste of a post Lecter (then again you'll post to anything) I expect more from you
Is it really hard to see that I saw his point of view from a box office perspective, then realizing he forgot almost 60% of his films that he thought of them only as critical hits, that I side with him. And it's not like Gattica is an amazing film, it's good, but for it to be "career defining" is the very definition of vague.

Re: In Time
Its not like Lord of War is some renowned movie. Me assuming it wasn't any good is hardly unnatural.
Gattaca is very well known among sci-fi fans.

I think you're cold-blooded, Lecter. The scene just demonstrates how accustomed the ghetto zone residents in the movie are to the system of trading goods and services in exchange for time (the currency of their society). It's a legit way of earning their living (or their way out of death). It's their social norm and almost like a reflex reaction. I think there's some kind of reward and punishment system in place to encourage these trading activities and deter any threats of non-gangster thefts.
