Jesus, it's pathetic when somebody who doesn't know anything thinks they are right. Is anybody considering anyone like that to be the authority on how James Bond should be? I hope nobody is that damn dumb.

This isn't about right or wrong, it's about preferences. How James Bond should be? 100 people 100 opinions.

There is a big difference between an opinion that is informed as opposed to an opinion that is filled with ignorance. Anybody that knows James Bond knows what I'm talking about.

There's not one Bond. He changed through the years and will continue to.

Every one of the films retained the essential Bond elements until Casino Royale (which is also the most boring of Fleming's Bond novels), and the actors were true to the archetype, unlike Craig.

I bet i could find a Bond aficionado who disagrees partly or fully, if i would care.

The problem is that for the most part, those that have posted in this thread and have enjoyed Quantum of Solace, seem to have a very narrow view and understanding of Bond.

I understand the two whole movies I've seen of Bond.

This isn't your Bond, it's mine.

If they've seen every Bond film, I dont see what the problem of not reading the books.

People shouldn't claim to be the final opinion on Bond because of their vast knowledge. People are genuinely smart. If they see a good movie and Bond is in it, thats how bond should be in their view.

No that wasn't my point, it has nothing to do with books. It's like someone saying the Star Wars prequels are the best Star Wars films and the person saying it has only seen 30 minutes of Jedi on Spike Tv.

Not all but many people in this thread and the two cinemania threads only know the latest era of Bond films. I'd add that there are some that know a shitload about Bond here at KJ, have worked on various Bond films, composed Bond music, and had sex with Connery, and STILL prefer QoS and CR.

Its barely a movie at all. Whoever used the word 'epilogue' had it right. An unconvincing one, to boot.

Best post ever made related to Quantum of Solace.

I love Daniel Craig's Bond. He's cool, fresh, intense, sexy, etc. I just dig what's he doing with the role.

This movie, IMO, failed because it was very poorly written.

Whose bad idea was it to not show the audience two critical sequences (Greene explaining Quantum, Bond chatting with Vesper's "boyfriend")?

It was a painfully obvious admission that they intend to continue the story, but that they have no idea what comes next. This is why we're stuck with movie no. 2, a movie that, for all the noise and fury, moves the plot forward a grand total of nothing.

It's as though they all woke up on the first morning of principal photography and remembered "Oh, fuck, we were supposed to write something."

I think it's a bit unfair to crop them together. I think Casino Royale is an incredible Bond film. I think Quantum's just a good one -- the fact a lot of the best stuff is coasting off my love for CR doesn't help it.

Post Re: Quantum of Solace
saw this again, and watched cr later that night.

Gotta say, this is a massive step backwards. Forget that Craig isnt Bond (he wasnt in CR, but he was such a boss it didnt matter), but themovie is just generally ridiculous.

-The water plot is stupid and makes no sense, and is horribly written.
-what was the point of fields? Seriously? Why didnt Bond just get with that girl instead?
-the "bond meets girl looking for revenge" story is getting so old, and this was probably the worst version of it yet

This whole movie is just a mess. What exactly is Quantum again? Why does Bond kill literally everybody? Oh yeah, Bond is going through issues. But than again, no he isnt.

To sum up, huge step backwards, Id put it along the lines of the world is not enough in that it is just not a good bond movie, though its hard to say its bad.

As for the franchise: Craig isnt Bond. Hugh Jackman could actually make for a fantastic James Bond; he has the combo of Connery ro Brosnans suave but as Wolverine has showed, can be the badass boss Craig is. Craig also looks way too old to pull off a "young" Bond and eyes aside, is the most unnattraive of all them. BUT, his sense of sarcasm is perfect ("& weve just won the lottery") and plays it off with such a badassery that it works anyway as an action hero. Until the films around him start being crap, it would be dumb to replace him.

But I cant see him finishing that what, 5 film contract he signed after cr? When his 3rd Bond film takes a big dip opening weekend from the shitty wom from qos, I would bet you hear whispers of a replacement. If that film is the same quality as this one, Id bet money we have dif. james bond in Bond 24.

who was that guy bond was chatting with at the end anyway? I thought they said vespers boyfriend was dead? Why are they even still on vesper anyway?

CR wasnt so much a great Bond movie as much as it was just a good movie in general. Gasino Royale had FLASHES of a great Bond movie, mainly in the 2nd half and at the very beginning. It still isnt up there with from russia with love or the ultimate bond movie Goldfinger.

James Bond isnt a brute. Hes not a straight up murderer. He isnt a "do whatever I want" guy. Bond is a charasmatic ladies man who can throw down and is very smart. Slick. Craigs Bond is played off extremely ruggedly which isnt Bonds style at all, I think most just dont care/didnt care with Casino Royale because the movie around him was good and it worked within it.

I liked it more than Casino Royale. Hated the Italy foot chase. Hated Bond stealing from poor folks in Haiti (boat and Bronco II). Hated the running gag (though not played for humor) of Bond killing everyone.

Still not sure about the plot and how hording water in Bolivia would be all that profitable, or whatever it was that Greene and his ill-coiffed henchman were attempting.

Liked the Canadian spy. Liked the girl and I think Craig is a great Bond. Liked the running time.

C.
