Waterworld
WaterworldQuote: Waterworld is a 1995 post-apocalyptic science fiction film. The film was directed by Kevin Reynolds and co-written by Peter Rader and David Twohy. It is based on Rader's original 1986 screenplay and stars Kevin Costner, who also produced it. It was distributed by Universal Pictures. The film was the follow-up project to the last collaboration between Kevin Costner and Kevin Reynolds, who previously worked together on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves in 1991.
The setting of the film is the distant future. Although no exact date was given in the film itself, it has been suggested that it took place in 2500. The polar ice caps have completely melted, and the sea level has risen many hundreds of metres, covering virtually all the land. The film illustrates this with an unusual variation on the Universal logo, which begins with the usual image of Earth, but shows the planet's water levels gradually rising and the polar ice caps melting as well until virtually all the land is submerged. The plot of the film centers on an otherwise nameless antihero, "the Mariner", a drifter who sails the Earth in his trimaran.
Waterworld was released to mixed reviews, despite being moderately successful at the international box office. The film's release was accompanied by a tie-in novel and video game, and also three popular themed attractions at Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Singapore and Universal Studios Japan based on the film, called Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular, which are all still running as of 2011.

I actually remember liking this when i watched it years ago.
I had no idea that it was such a bomb.

Re: Waterworld
A very average actioner with a good idea. I'd say if it wasn't for this film the Postman would have been a pretty big hit. Costner seems like he hated making this movie and it shows on screen. (They did this for 180 days, and Reynolds was fired forcing Costner to do the last 30 days which included many reshoots.)

Re: Waterworld
This will forever be one of my guiltiest pleasures. AHow desperately I wanted to be the Mariner during my adolescence....

Re: Waterworld
Not as bad as its reputation would indicate, but it's certainly not great. The climax is pretty terrible.

Re: Waterworld
I never understood all the hate towards Waterworld, it's a great sci-fi action movie with a solid dystopian story. *A-*

Re: Waterworld
Seen this many times now. (Also the deleted scenes which flesh it out now)
First half is pretty solid. Costner and Hopper are good enough. But dam the supporting characters are pretty bad. In Retrospect when you watch things like The Walking Dead, you needed movies like this to fail to get to the right way. It's still not good, it has a lot of trashy fun to it. I think I still like The Postman more than this overall

Re: Waterworld
This film and its surprisingly decent 2.9/5 on lettrbox makes me wonder if Borderlands will be considered either "underrated" or "misunderstood" when the people who are 10 right now are eventually adults.
0.3/10

In 30 years, kids of today will be saying "I miss the days when humans made special effects, like the underrated and misunderstood classic Borderlands. Today's films are all AI made crap."
