 Highlander
Highlander Quote: Highlander is a 1986 fantasy action film directed by Russell Mulcahy and based on a story by Gregory Widen. It stars Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart. The film depicts the climax of an ages-old battle between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present day storylines. Despite having enjoyed little success in its initial U.S. release, the cult film launched Lambert to stardom and inspired a franchise that included film sequels, television spin-offs, and an upcoming remake. The film's tagline, "There can be only one," has carried on throughout the franchise, as have the songs provided for the film by Queen.

Well... guess I'll be the first before someone else inevitably quotes Talladega Nights.

Haven't seen it since it first came out -- but, Bradley circa 1986, absolutely loved it.
Time travel? Queen? Sean Connery?
C'mon!!!!!

Why again is that a cult favorite? It is silly, it is boring and it has aged terribly. C

Best movie I mean second best movie to ever use a Queen song as a their theme music. I love Russell Mcchay's visual work for the film and its a shame the movie is vastly underated . Just to tick Squee off like Ricky Bobby said best movie ever made

Highlander was a childhood favorite of me. But I have to agree with Levy who said it didn't aged that well. I thought nearly all of the 'present' scenes sucked but the flashbacks were great. B

Never liked the movies much but I thought the tv series was well-done.

I'll fully admit that it's aged pretty badly in parts, and the mystery of why they got a Swiss educated man like Lambert to play a Scottish tribesman is beyond me. That said on a whole its still a brilliant piece of entertainment.
Clancy Brown's evil Kurgen is so over the top coming off like a cross between Johnny Rotten and a WWE wrestler and the fight sequences are pretty silly in parts (i laughed at the section in the first 10 minutes were the guy in the suit seems to magically slide out from the support pillar and says Highlander) but it all somehow holds together and as loNG as your not a needlessly picky sort there ain't much wrong with this movie on the fun scale.
Connery should have been in it a bit more, his extended cameo cut off to soon but all the scenes in the Highlands are beautifully shot and the director clearly loved his epic sweeping captures.
The 80s fashion for the women is nasty to behold in hindsight, it's like the Michelin man attempting to look elegant, all massive hair and shoulders.
Freddie Mercury reminded me why he was blessed with the best singing voice ever in this as well. Excellent soundtrack.
I've ignored the awful sequel's and stuck with this, as the tag goes There can only be One.

Glad to hear someone else even remembers Flash Gordon -- an under-rated camp sci-fi remake...

 Re: Highlander
I had always avoided this movie when I was young, worried that it would be too nerdy even for a guy who had the Lord of the Rings as his three favorite movies ever. Which seems ridiculous to think about now. Wtf was younger me so anxious about, its just a movie.
Except that I was totally right. Watched it at home 40 years after release and could still smell the unwashed masses that must have flocked to the theater over and over to see the ultra badassery. These types of movies are so much better when they have an ordinary relatable character at the front (like a hobbit for instance.) When your lead is already the most badass of all badasses and doesn't need to grow as a person and just needs to defeat the evil bad guy and pick up random damsels in distress I'm just not that invested and instead will start noticing all the 40 year old cheese ... no wonder the movie smelled so bad.
