The Killer (2023)
Quote: The Killer is a 2023 American action thriller film directed by David Fincher from a screenplay by Andrew Kevin Walker. It is based on the French graphic novel series The Killer written by Alexis "Matz" Nolent and illustrated by Luc Jacamon. The film stars Michael Fassbender in the title role, alongside Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, Kerry O'Malley, Sala Baker, Sophie Charlotte, and Tilda Swinton in supporting roles. Its plot follows the titular assassin who gets embroiled in an international manhunt after a hit goes wrong.
Development on the graphic novel adaptation began in 2007 at Paramount Pictures and Plan B Entertainment, with Fincher signed on as director and Alessandro Camon as screenwriter. In 2021, Fincher later moved the project over to Netflix with Andrew Kevin Walker replacing Camon as writer.
The Killer premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2023.[6] It received a limited theatrical release on October 27, 2023; it began streaming on Netflix on November 10, 2023.

This was like watching John Wick on .25x speed. Total snoozer. I see people saying its meant to be a satire of an assassin film but I definitely didn't pick up on that.

Re: The Killer (2023)
I need to see it again. I've seen that people have found it hilarious. Outside of the opening "Fuck!" I didn't really find it funny. The more I think about it though he fucks up constantly, only doesn't get killed by Swinton because he panics, and is basically covered head to toe in product placement. With some help from Amazon and WeWork, anyone can be a killer! We're all little sociopaths.

Re: The Killer (2023)
Great as a movie but disappointing to have this combo of Fincher/Fassbender deliver "only" this. Lots of details were given small details that don't add much to the story. The ending was very disappointing though throughout the story there was never a feeling of urgency or threat and that for this kind of movie is the biggest sin.

Re: The Killer (2023)
Watched this a few week ago and was looking forward to it as a big fan of Fincher. Unfortunately it's not a great as I was hoping it to be. But it's very good and has some great hitman elements. In fact it's so much better than the two hitman films based on the game, I wish those were more like this. This also has some sneaky humorous moments and Fassbender is good too. But the film doesn't quite reach any highs, and while his vendetta to get back at his contractor follows some nice beats it never feels very grand. And the main fighting scene in the film is pretty disappointing, taking place in a dark house where we don't see much of it. All together still enjoyable, but much like Mann with Ferrari last year, I feel Fincher left something on the table with this too.

Fincher is better than The Killer - yet it's still quite good.
