Post Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
Saw it again the other day. Still the best movie of the year, but I was also feeling a bit tired, and watched a version with a not so glorious quality. It both did take away from the film a bit. Still the best film of the year so far, but I'm expecting it to be overtaken instead of it standing tall where it does at the moment.

On review the action sequences and the music is still heart pounding and awesome. Knowing how some events turn out, did take some of the suspense away as well though, and Fury Road is a film that leans heavy on suspense. Some things that annoyed me at first viewing, like Zoe Kravitz role overall, didn't this time, as I felt it just fitted within the movie as I've become to know it now.

Fury Road stays very well made, with a great cast, perfect filmed angles and a soundtrack that swoops you up. It's highly re-watchable.

Fury Road depends on adrenaline fused emotions, so while I still think it is a phenomenal movie, the best action film in years, it is hard to watch it over and over again with small intervals.

I was enthralled the whole way through. Just phenomenal on so many levels. Hopefully all other blockbusters aspire to this level. Iconic. A

Mad Max: Fury Road

Wow, what a thrill ride. It is so, so, so cinematic. Such a visual feast. The wide photographic shots and the colour compositions are just breath-taking. The on-screen kineticism is ferocious when the action hits (which is immediately). It's a special film. The intensity is cranked up to eleven, and two hours feels more like one. It's action and adventure from the very beginning. The whole film has an auteuristic quality; the uncompromising vision of George Miller is a feast for the eyes. The fades-to-black are awesome, and the differing palettes for each terrain on their voyage to the "Green Place" breaks up what could have been one, long two-hour film into bite-size and flowing chapters. Cinematographically, it wowed me. Narratively it's pure Road Warrior territory, which I especially was glad to watch. I harkens back to the original trilogy in style and some other elements, but remains largely fresh; a great mix of the two. I also kind of loved how Furiosa outshines Max in his own movie. Tom Hardy held his own and will be a great Max in the forthcoming sequels, but this movie belonged to Charlize Theron, the costume department, George Miller, the editor, and the cinematographer. A modern classic.

Just an observation here; is the film R or did I just watch an edited version? because there was hardly any blood whatsoever in a film that really could and should have tons of it. Apart from the scene where Joe gets his face ripped off and perhaps one or two other shootings where an edit couldn't have been made, there was nothing...

No, there is not much gore beyond Joe's death/the split-second shot of his mauled face.

I honestly believe it is rated R more because of general grit and intensity. It "feels" harder and more insane than a PG-13 movie, even without lots of viscera or nudity.

Thanks.

And yes, I agree. It does feel R-rated even without the blood. The animalistic evilness of the gangs as they attack is enough to make it R.

Finally saw this movie. Having two small kids (2 and under), I am sheltered from hype/anything else. Hence, I had no expectations. I even forgot to check the RottenTomatoes review average before watching.

That was a thrill ride. Highly enjoyable, and a great post-apocalyptic movie. I also loved the never-ending guitar player.

I didn't mind Max not speaking much. At the start he says he survives. Made sense to me that he wouldn't say much in order to survive and that he would fade into the crowd at the end.

Mel Gibson never said much as Max either. I thought Hardy portrayed the Max I already knew very well.

Gibson's Max is night and day different.

I'm find with Hardy, but they need to really give him more in the sequel. He really is a non factor in the film.

I liked that about Max though. He really got the drifter witha heart of gold role better than most characters that try so hard to emulate the archetype. He is passive except when it involves saving his own skin, but lends a hand but not two when he is needed to.

Which is not who Gibson's Max was at all. Not to mention he was pretty hilarious and very smart.

That doesn't bother me as I never saw the original trilogy

And that's fine, but you can't argue that Hardy's Max is close to the archetype, when Gibson's (who helped define it) characterization is completely different.

And Check out the others! ASAP!

Thegun describes Gibson's Max as if he were this whip-smart, wisecracking Deadpool type.

Not at all. Im just noting out the similarities between the two are not at all alike. I don't think there is a single element of HaRdy that is better.

And he was pretty funny for what the late 70s early 80s would allow. A Snake like antihero.
