Saw it again, Depp was amazing in this role, and the fact the most of the rest of the story isn't as good, its easy to see that since Depp isn't as good in the other sequels, the films themselves are much worst.

This is my least favorite of the original 3 Pirates films. I absolutely love the first hour or so and the last 30 minutes to 45 minutes (when Elizabeth and Jack get onto the island). It's just the middle sea battle is very sloppily executed and boring in comparison to the exciting, hilarious Port Royal, Isla De Muerta and Tortuga scenes. It just seems like it drags on forever and ever. The second and third just feel cleaner and better edited to me. But this is definitely the best fantasy adventure film since Raiders of the Lost Ark and I'm surprised it and its sequels don't have stronger reviews, considering how re watchable they are. I do so every year.

A+

Love this movie but god compared to literally everybody else in the movie, Bloom is just SO bad and bland. :funny:

All of this dialogue is soo forced. "BAHBOSA!" :funny:

Just rewatched this, it's been awhile. Holds up very well, one of the best blockbusters of the 2000s.

One if the greatest blockbusters of all time. Just solid storytelling with one of the best earned climaxes in blockbuster history. Blockbusters these days just have such weak climaxes

I prefer Dead Man's Chest and At Worlds End, but this one is certainly great too.

I loved those two at first as well, but I was angstier when I was younger; they do not hold up as well. As cool as it was for a twist, bringing Barbosa back is a disservice to this film.

I always enjoy this movie and love Depp's turn as the lead here (obviously :D). The story is convoluted at times as well as repetitive but in the grand scheme of things works really well as a mystery unfolding. Depp keeps things fun during all times and the overall adventure is pleasing. The movie has great production values as well and wants me more of these Pirates world.

Man 2003 really was a great year for movies. I was lucky enough to have seen this one in theater too, but I also wish I had seen other films in the theater like X2, Bad Boys 2, Return of the King and The Matrix: Reloaded and Revolutions which I actually do enjoy even though I know that they are a big step down from the original film. As for this films I do really enjoy it, but like I said before its not my favorite it the franchise like it is for most people. It's a great almost old school summer Blockbuster though with a cast that just works on every level and many impressive/fun set pieces. It's still amazing to me how successful this franchise became and all of it is pretty much thanks to an amusement park ride at Disney.

B+

Amazing film. Watched it again the other day and found this forum to post a short review.

Pirates tells the story of a cursed pirate ship manned by the damned and captained by Barbossa, once the firstmate to Captain Jack Sparrow (who is the best-looking pirate ever put on film), now turned mutaneer. Aztec treasure, stolen, curses the crew eternal zombies until all of its coins are returned. Elizabeth, unaware of the legend, makes jewelry of the last coin, which she took from a sleeping William Turner, her eventual love interest in spite of her evident thievery.

And so Jack Sparrow, a dirty adonis with sexually appealing dreadlocks and mascara, returns from the high seas to kick things into gear. Johnny Depp makes of him a fine specimen. Only complaint is how distracting he is whenever on screen.

From there a roshbuckling score from Hans Zimmer swashbuckles us with adventure to the Isle of Tortuga. Elizabeth kidnapped, Turner and Sparrow in gallant pursuit. British naval forces further at the rear. Guffawing excitement for a wide audience so abounds.

But, alas, Jack Sparrow is never shown to be naked. The audience left forlorn. Hark ye that absentee member, the true Pirate of the Caribbean. Salty sweat beneath his moist leather to saturate the imagination at every Sparrow call. Drunken slurs of his lip like lewd purrs between my hips. Why would such restrictive clothing be worn while swimming? Let the Disney ride's inspiration take deeply his carriage through every tunnel. Those whirlpool eyes steady in a stoic gaze at the camera as he breaks my 4th wall.

Verbinski (is that the right spelling?) was in strong command here. His best work, in my view. If only it could be seen for the first time again. Follow-ups aren't quite the desecrations of the Matrix trilogy, but still, it would've been better served as a standalone.

A+

This was 100% the perfect franchise to make sequels, definitely would have been a waste as a standalone.

No doubt this movie was awesome but Orlando Blooms atrocious acting is SO distracting. Depp and Rush dominate, Knightley breaks out big time and then Bloom is just....horrible.
