i liked the 3d since it was the first time i saw a 3d film in theaters but i wish they would have embraced it more. it just kind of stuck out of the screen, it didn't engage the audience.

I do have to say that the 3D aspect was completely pointless, and actually took more away from the film than it added. It was difficult to really appreciate the colors of Up with those dark glasses on. I think it would be better without the distraction.

Concur. This is proof that 3-D isn't an automatic benefit.

Yes - - along with a boatload of 3D trailers...

Watch My Bloody Valentine if you want to see 3D put to good use.

And I didn't get the short either. Just the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs trailer and Toy Story 3. What a rip.

I agree that while seeing Up in 3D was fun (although not my first time), because it wasn't really meant for 3D like MBV3D was (the only other one I've seen in 3D), it wasn't really necessary. But oh well. I did see the short, btw. Wonderful.

As was the film, which I think is the best Pixar film since The Incredibles. So, so funny and enjoyable, without being awkward (see Wall-E) or boring (see Cars and Ratatouille).

Now, if I've already seen Up... should I go see it in 3D, or regular a 2nd time?

Roger Ebert says:

Quote:
The movie will be shown in 3-D in some theaters, about which I will say nothing, except to advise you to save the extra money and see it in 2-D. One of the film's qualities that is likely to be diminished by 3-D is its subtle and beautiful color palette. "Up," like "Finding Nemo," "Toy Story," "Shrek" and "The Lion King," uses colors in a way particularly suited to its content.

...and I agree.

(Although, even knowing that others are recommending 2D, one might also argue that as a movie afficionado you might want to see both, so you can give your informed opinion to others if they ask...)

guess i am in the minority here but I thought it was borderline crap. First of all, there were tons of parts that dragged without dialogue or anything really going on. Second, I was not a fan of all the adult themes in the movie. Kids are going to watch this and I'm sure parents will have to explain things like death and bloddy violence to their kids. Third, I really think little kids are gonna find this boring. Four, there was very little humor outside what was shown in the trailer. Five, what was the point of this movie again?

The 3D thing was a waste of money. it put me in a bad mood. B-

Sounds like you were already in a bad mood.

Seriously? You're worried about parents having to explain death to their kids? OH GOD NO! HOW COULD THEY?!

you know it's true... Up had no story to it. It was basically an excuse to make a pretty movie which of course it was. But that was it. It will be quickly forgotten once the weekend's hype subsides...

I'm actually still trying to make up my mind about that. Coraline had more stricking visuals and was more beautiful to watch, this is not an argument, and while I saw UP in 2D I here it's lame in 3D and the subtle yet vivid use of 3D in Coraline was amazing. Still, I think UP had better dialogue, more consistent tone and better drawn characters and events. All in all these are both incredible animated flicks, and considering that we still have ponyo and Princess and Frog to come out this year, we are in for quite a great year of animated film.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Post Re: Up
I quite enjoyed myself.

I felt it did a great job embracing its fantasy/adventure roots and really giving us a rousing good time. Unlike WALL-E and Ratatouille, which were too concerned with promoting their messages to really tell an interesting story, this felt natural and smooth and totally unforced. It's not a social parable or environmental warning; it's just a straight up adventure flick. And I really appreciated it for that.

It's also totally hilarious; all the dog stuff had me in stitches. Dug's "I know a joke..." was a blast of irreverent humour that was both welcome and not at all out of place amongst the obvious jokes. I can't remember ever laughing so much at a Pixar flick, especially their last two.

Y'all might call it 'minor' Pixar for not being as adult and substantive as their last works, but that's why I enjoyed it more, I think. Just a ton of fun.

Party Cloudy was even better, though.

Highly Enjoyable stuff, the rancid stench of Wall-E can at last be removed from my nostrils.

Pixar also remembered to bring the funny something they seemed to be losing touch of.
