Dang! This movie's release schedule prevented me from seeing it in the year of it's release... but nonetheless, I most certainly do appreciate getting to see this modern masterpiece on New Year's Day 2007!
It's better than I could have ever hoped for... Children of Men is an outstandingly consistent view of the/a future. This is sci-fi done right!
And get this!!! Coincidentally, it is an almost scene-for-scene twin of Apocalypto. What are the chances of that!?! Makes me almost wanna start believing in synchronicity again...
Barring (another) miracle birth amongst the few remaining 2006 films I have left to see, I hereby declare Children of Men the best film of 2006!
10.5 out of 5.
{Which also locks down my 2006 Top 3, in order, with #1 Children of Men (@10.5/5); #2 Apocalypto (@10/5); and #3 Idiocracy (@9.5/5)}
{{Further, the remaining 7 of my 2006 Top Ten, not in order, look to be: The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine, An Inconvenient Truth, The World's Fastest Indian, Peaceful Warrior, Crank, Dreamgirls.}}
{{{And finally, here's wishing all @ WOKJ yet another year of superb movies in 2007!!!!!!!}}}

Good to know you base your opinions on how everyone around you responds. Do you dress as a goth to be an "individual," too?

That I am, Mr. I-Don't-Plan-On-Seeing-This-Film Gates. You're dead to me.
Until you see the film.
And love it.

Noo. But this movie doesn't deserve this.

Heh... not to mention the hilariously dark and perfectly fitting Running the World by Jarvis Cocker which runs over the end credits...

What is the song that plays briefly after Theo and Jasper get to Jasper's place for the first time and they are giving his wife the red scarf? I liked it when I heard it, but don't know what it is.
Peace,
Mike.

The song is called Ruby Tuesday. It's originally by the Rolling Stones, but it's performed in the movie by Franco Battiato.

I was expecting an amazing film, and it did not live up to the expectations. It is a great film none the less, but I really dislike the ending. I'll give it an B+/A-
