Basically this is the archetype for the Bond movies. What about the Bond books?

 Re: North by Northwest
Not my favorite by Hitchcock, it falls somewhere around Rear Window, short of vertigo or psycho. Yet another of his films that I found slightly disappointing, but undeniably excellent. I love him, but each passing film proves more and more he's not among my very favorite auteurs.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Word dude, I know what you mean. His films are always fun and entertaining but there's certainly more interesting directors out there. Still, credit where credit is due for his contributions to the thriller. And this may be a silly question, but is it a bit redundant to say my favorite auteurs? Couldn't you just say among my favorite directors and we'd get your categorizing films based on auteur theory?

 Re: North by Northwest
Not necessarily. Auteur doesn't always refer to the director, though it's usually used as a synonym.

 Re: North by Northwest
You still hung up on that? LOL. Obviously the Bond movies were made based on Bond books, but there's no denying that North By Northwest is atmospherically and in every other movie-related sense a basic template for how the Bond movies were filmed.

 Re: North by Northwest
I watched this as a young kid on TV and found it boring. (Yeah I remember watching Mrs. Miniver and falling in love with that film for some strange reason)
However around when I was 18, I started to watch Hitchcock's iconic films (Vertigo, Psycho, this film and North by NorthWest)
The story is great, the intro music is amazing and the actors are amazing. It has iconic scenes, the climax is okay though. I rank it below Vertigo, Psycho and North by Northwest but it is a classic indeed and my top 100 favourite films.

Still such a great film to this day. Grant and Hitchcock bring out something truly great for the thriller genre that stays with you from start to finish.

North by Northwest
A great Hitchcock thriller. I just love the way Cary Grant acts. I was watching another one of his Hitchcock movies the other day and I was gripped by his acting. I forget the name because it was a bad copy so I turned it off, but it seemed good. This is one of Hitchcock's best, but unfortunately it's the last movie he did before he got shit.

 Re: North by Northwest
Watched this on 4k blu ray and its one of the better upgrades I've seen. The iconic scenery and score really pop.
Buttttttttttt holy crap this movie is way slower than I remember. And Cary Grant, our hero, truly believes that some beautiful blonde helps him escape the police and all she wants in exchange is his cock? Come on. Then he acts all sad and betrayed when it turns out she had other motives. Come on ... again.
So while its still a very good movie, Im lowering my grade from a 10 to an 8.5. Sorry Alf. You still have one 10 from me in Psycho. Will rewatch some of your other classics to see how they hold up.

 Re: North by Northwest
I thought it was overrated, this movie is kind of like 50s rock and roll where it's influence is better than it is fun to actually listen to. They had almost no action movies at the time so it makes sense they were more wowed by it. It's the unofficial first Bond movie which brings some stuff to appreciate but also some dated elements.

I caught this again over Christmas and still love it. I can just sit back, soak up and appreciate every moment.
