I think some of the story elements and the last act's fake-out to be eh but Naomi Scott is really fantastic in this.

Ehhh I dunno. Some of the scares are good and Scott gives a moviestar performance. No doubt about it. I just think this would have been better off as Smile X, an ambitious reboot way down the line. The opening scene of this movie could have very easily been the final scene and the audience would have been fine with it. Lets spend the movie building on the mystery of the smile demon instead of just resetting with a mostly unrelatable person. Though I'll say, if they had actually done something more interesting with the demon itself then maybe the popstar story would have landed better. But instead it ends in basically the same way the first one did.

Also

Spoiler: show
If Smile demon could infect many people at once why wouldn't it just have its host kil themselves in a crowd? Obviously that wouldn't be as many as a pop concert, but surely it would have started a chain that eventually infected the entire world... Though if it did that the demon would have nobody left to feed on ... yeah that ending was really fucking stupid.

I'll give Smile 2 a 5.8/10

I missed the first 10-15 mins - got there just before she goes to Lewis’ apartment so not sure what i missed. However i thought this was pretty great even if it didn't quite stick the landing. Naomi Scott is a blistering tour de force in this atmospheric thriller full of gore and jump scares. Certainly better than the first film.

Great start. Naomi Scott is very good, but a lot in the middle feels redundant. She’s very good at acting scared shitless, but it’s not enough to cover two hours (why?). I liked the last scene though.

Looking back, she's just hallucinating most of the film, right? If she isn't I don't think the film adds up. For instance, when she wakes up late when her friend slept over and her mom comes in...she's imagining that entire sequence (except the getting up late part), right? Otherwise, how is the mom interacting with her friend if her friend never interacts with her until the end on the phone? I could see how writing it thinking that might be fun for the audience, but it isn't.

I haven't seen the first, but it wraps up that story and shows us how the drug dealer friend she visits gets infected.
