 Re: Strays
I probably wouldn't have paid full price for this but it was good enough time. Will probably gain an audience once it hits streamers. It somehow works despite its faults.

 Re: Strays
Eh, it was fine I guess, but like many modern comedies it did feel like the whole movie was wearing a cone of shame. Not a lot of edge to the humor, just the expected dog jokes over and over. The ending was cute.

 Re: Strays
This is softer than what I was looking for, with 3/4s of the group being squares between Ferrell and the two domesticated pets and the Homeward Bound type journey, it felt more in spirit more of a PG-13 version of a dog movie than a real R rated comedy throwback, like they were too afraid to drop a real offensive comedy in 2023 environment. Foxx who is great has to carry the comedy as the one edgier dog and Ferrell’s talents mostly wasted, although even he has the sad backstory arc and new kid. I guess it makes sense to pay tribute to real dog movies with the heartwarming vibe, but I would have been more interested in going full gross out. Still it has some amusing parts like the bunnies/fireworks/mailmen parts and has heart, and everything with Doug including his comeuppance is great.

 Re: Strays
I don't know what it says but it feels like this was the role Will Forte was born to play. Just felt like perfect casting for him.

 Re: Strays
Bad. It's not funny. And the idea of the "Dog's..." cameos are cute, but Dennis Quaid is beyond wasted. I saw it months ago and I'm still not sure how I feel about Will Forte. He's almost too good at being a scumbag. So much so that I thought his punishment was too tame. Right idea but it should've been over the top gory.

 Re: Strays
I'll go with Jmart on this one. No redeeming qualities and good through motions without being funny or proper R rated (which for this movie what was the point to make?).
3/10. (D+)

 Re: Strays
I had a good time with this, it seems hard to make good comedies these days and this doesn't reach any hilarious heights but it does a nice job of mixing the life of dogs with mostly crude humor. I like the (voice) cast too.

 Re: Strays
I feel more positive about this one the more I think of it. Compared to lack of R rated comedies nowadays I'll take it.

 Re: Strays
I found it interesting that in The Netherlands it has a pg-13 rating, which feels right for it, giving it an R for just language is a bit much.
