 May December
Quote: May December is a 2023 American drama film directed by Todd Haynes from a screenplay by Samy Burch, based on a story by Burch and Alex Mechanik. Loosely inspired by the story of Mary Kay Letourneau, it stars Natalie Portman as an actress who travels to Georgia to meet and study the life of the controversial woman (Julianne Moore) she is set to play in a film—the woman being infamous for her 23-year-long relationship with her husband (Charles Melton), which began when he was just 13 years old.[4][5] Cory Michael Smith, Elizabeth Yu, and Piper Curda feature in supporting roles.
The film was announced in June 2021, with Portman and Moore joining the cast. Filming took place in mid-2022 around Savannah, Georgia. It premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2023, where the North American distribution rights were acquired by Netflix.
May December was released in select theaters in the United States on November 17, 2023, before streaming on Netflix on December 1, and received critical acclaim.

 Re: May December
Solid drama handling the female child predator-teenage boy who are married twenty years down the line trope with complexity, and made better by all three performances. Portman gives one of my favorite performances from her to date, Moore plays the narcissism of her character, while the surprise is Melton from Riverdale holding his own and then some with them in the most sympathetic role as the traumatized husband.

Performances from the 3 leads are all top notch.

 Re: May December
With strong performances from the 3 leads this was a decent look at a different side of long term abusive marriage. Portman feels in character throughout even in the background scenes, look at her eyes; always studying these characters. Melton gets the meatiest role of the three and he holds his own against the giants. Moore gets few good scenes but also gets short end of the stick here almost feel wasted. The finale could have left more punch but it's still decent.
7/10. (B/B+)

 Re: May December
This was super engrossing, though ultimately it felt like it was leading to some bigger revelation than it did.
