Deadline saying 12m previews for Wed/Thursday

Pretty impressive for a movie that had an opening weekend of $8,030,897 (unadjusted) have a sequel do $12M in previews. 36 years of inflation of course but this looks to coast past even its adjusted total.

Beetlejuice is a movie that grew in popularity overtime aided by the fact that it works well as a Halloween movie so it could continue to grow its audience over time

Enormous number and one that really, really solidifies Jenna Ortega as a legit draw.

There's no denying it that Ortega was a massive pull here. MASSIVE.

-36% Latino audience. Otherwise I didn't realize Keaton had that much pull in that community.

-Females at 59% and 73% over 25. 62% female for kids.

It's becoming a cross demo hit and as we've seen walk ups are likely to be massive here.

Ortega and Powell have serious starpower and bankability to catapult 3 decade old franchises to $80M+ OWs.

Ortega was smart to jump on this as it would have pulled out her Scream / Wednesday audience. Funny how Netflix could have put this together with their Ortega / Burton relationship. I feel like 1/4 of this OW is going to be built from Wednesday goodwill.

The Crow lost 2,456 theatres, now at just 296.

The 11th biggest third weekend drop ever.

Why couldn't this 80s nostalgia work for Blade Runner 2049 :tears:

Because only film lovers and artsy people like or remember Blade Runner. The general public barely remembers it as the one 80s sci fi flick Harrison Ford did that they barely recall.

I think people remember it. They know it. Blade Runner just isn't good. It's boring. And so is 2049. Ridley Scott is overrated by geeks but the general moviegoer doesn't rate his so-called classics as highly as the geeks.

Blade Runner is well known and beloved like taxi driver, it’s film people study in college but more about making a movie. Enjoying it is not really the point, and most people don’t. Certainly probably very few under 18, and maybe slight more that are older, they can’t even decide which version is best. Beetlejuice is a fun film I still will watch a good amount when it’s on tv. And it’s had very long lasting staying power among different generations

BR49 is hard to explain tbh. But not as hard as this. Where did this type of explosion come from?

I never watched Wednesday but I guess that certainly contributed a bit to hype...? Over 90m opening is quite massive though jeez

Ortega def has big pull but Latinos are also becoming a much bigger portion of the moviegoing audience

Charlie is now saying 42. So 29m+ without previews/early shows. Really strong. I think 110m OW is nothing to sneeze at for a Burton movie at this point. Ortega is a bonefide star as weell.

Didn't even realize Burton's last movie was Dumbo lol

Phenomenal. I would have never guessed it doing this well without any tracking. Should play well through Halloween season and be good for $300m, which is nuts.

Wednesday definitely propelled him back into the public's good will.

Come to think of it, the only other $100M September opener owes thanks to Netflix too as It greatly benefitted from Stranger Things fever.

This is Burton’s most successful film since Alice in Wonderland nearly two decades ago

Coraline and Beetlejuice's success is obviously related.

I feel like there shouldn't be any dump months anymore. Just release a semi big expectations in January and see what happens.

It was a bit misleading. But we’re looking back into the 00s here in terms of zeitgeist so I was talking more on the front of the decade as a whole rather than exact years. And yes before you say it was 2010 not 2009, much of its hype was driven in 2009.

This will likely never happen but a Nightmare Before Christmas sequel would open to 150m+.

Disney: Best I can do is a remake.

Though Chalamet and Ortega are right there for the perfect casting. Can Powell play Santa?

They can at least make a CGI version if nobody wants to do stop motion anymore.
