Not really a fair comparison as Moana and Wicked are opening on a 5-day weekend but should these films stay where they are and produce another massive weekend? Inside Out is making me confident Moana will be huge, and Wicked will likely do big #s too. I think what's concerning is if people choose one or the other but if this gets the social media attention Barbenheimmer got then it should help the week. Barbenheimer grossed $244.4m opening weekend. Can these 2 films match that in 5-days? Too bad the combined names don't really sound good. Wioana or Moaked lol |

Moana 2 will be a monster though Wicked may be more of a 40-50 then legs thing though. That's if it happens, I don't really understand why one can't just open in mid November and then have Thanksgiving as a holdover week I like the scheduling of Here as an adult film on this weekend. |

The only issue here is the audience has more overlap (females). They will hurt each other, and one will come off worse for wear. One should definitely move to earlier in November. That one two punch of November animated and live action franchise or family films rarely fail. |

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. I don't think enough straight men who aren't dad's will give a shit to boost it to those heights. And as I implied when I said I hope I'm wrong, that I'm hoping it becomes another Barbenheimer for the sake of the box office, but I also think it'd be really funny if Wicked bombed. People go expecting the musical, only get half the story, get pissed off, the film has no legs, and here comes a lame duck Part 2 in 2025. Like Allegiant, but on a much grander scale. Now I'm pretty sure that won't happen to the extent where it'd be really funny, but like Mad said, one of the movies (looking at you Wicked) really needs to move to the week before. Having Thanksgiving week be the film's second week would pretty much ensure it doesn't fall flat on it's face. It's baffling to me why they haven't moved it yet especially considering Moana 2 is shaping up to be a juggernaut and will eat into Wicked's audience. |

Never in the history of KJ has any member correctly predicted "the next [insert mega smash here]". |

Wicked needs to move. They're going to cannibalize each other. |

Wicked should release early. Nov 1, Nov 8 and Nov 15 are wide open. Nov 15 would be best as it can have the Thanksgiving weekend in it's 3rd outing. Nov 22 is OK but has Gladiator 2 which will be hyped up. |

Gladiator II is destined to fail. Ridley lost his touch around 15 years ago and since then has either revisited properties or done historical films. All have failed to revive his reputation. I hope I'm wrong and it's amazing. But I can't see it. Ridley makes boring films now and has done for a while. |

https://deadline.com/2024/07/wicked-rel ... 1235999048 Welp. Wicked is now releasing 5 days earlier, November 22 against Gladiator lol This article even brings up the whole Barbenheimer thing. As is I could see Wicked opening to 70m+ and Gladiator doing 35m+. |

Swap them around and you’d be closer but I think they’ll both open a bit higher |

I think they will both do well but numbers will be closer to Casino Royale/Happy Feet, the original Barbenheimer |

Wicked is hard to gauge but I think matching Oz the Great and Powerful unadjusted is the bare minimum. |

2 hrs. 40 minutes for part one longer than the entire musical. Oof. Im more convinced now they are planning part 2 to be a remake of the 39 film now. I hate this adaptation. This is now 8.8/10 ways to go bad |

Gladiated or Wickediator? ![]() The very fact that a portmanteau doesn't spring to mind probably means that it won't be the next Barbenheimer. And which one will disappoint? Ridley Scott obviously. |

Going through major cities for Gladiator, seeing some significant sales already coming in for opening weekend. Wouldn't be shocked to see sellouts for some of these Imax screenings as early as this week in NYC. 7:30 pm Friday show at Lincoln Square NYC looks about 80% sold already. Sat is looking strong there too. Also seeing big pre-sales already in LA, San Francisco and Toronto. I'll let Keyser jump in but I'm feeling bullish about this from first day of presales. Wicked / Gladiator may both be interesting enough that the Barbenheimer hoopla could also really help turn this into a major event. |
