Probably too early to judge IF though doesn't seem that great. Strangers could do Night Swim numbers, I'd be happy to see Madelaine Pestch film breakout after liking her in Riverdale

That’s half of Kung Fu Panda do you’d think at least 25m would be safe but who knows.

Charlie is saying 8.5m true friday / 10.25m including previews for If. Strangers 3.5m TF/4.7m including previews. I would say IF did better than what I thought this morning.

So > 30m OW for IF?

if the number holds and this update was provided fairly late and so it should be that far off, it should easily hit 30m. May be even 33ish OW.

Ok then thats fairly decent actually. Not a break out but not a flop either. Considering it is non IP - that is reasonable.

Anything over 31m would be the second biggest opening for an original movie since the pandemic besides Nope.

Free Guy only opened to 28.4 so 30 mil seems like a success to me.

$110m budget for If. Opening over 30m seems solid and it may crack 100m. Idk how it'd do overseas though.

Crazy that the Strangers is a 3 part movie already made.

I'm happy to see as many releases come out like Fall Guy and IF as possible that are original or spiritually original, star vehicles and liked quality wise (going by A cinemascore for IF). With that said it took a big budget and primo release date to get there.

I can’t imagine it will do well in Asia as movies about spirits generally do poorly there

Charlie is saying for Saturday
IF - 13.5m
Apes - 10.5m
Strangers - 4m

Good day across the board.

Glad If recovered to a respectable opening. With a holiday second weekend even with Garfield helps it pull a potential leggier run.

Ugh at KFP AND GvsK getting into the $195-198M range. KFP4 could be at $193M by the end of the weekend, GvsK at $194M.

KFP4's PTA dropped 29.4% but just lost way too many theaters. GvsK PTA dropped 9.1% but big theater drop as well.

Garfield will hit KFP hard but maybe there's some benefit from the holiday that can give it a chance.

I don't get it and assume some type of fraud is involved to help keyzer win the monthly game again.

35m for If. Pretty surprised it hit that # and by the A Cinemascore. Strange movie.

I think Ryan Reynolds is a star and for sure helped this movie. It basically did Free Guy numbers adjusted for inflation/a better moviegoing market.

Should do over 100m domestic. Not a huge success overall but one of the better non IP performances post covid for sure.

35 is great!

You can argue Reynolds not trying to be more versatile or make anything except mainstream movies is actually arguably why he's one of the last draws. It allows people to know what they're getting, like people feeling comfortable knowing what a Marvel movie will be like going in.

It's a combination of things but first family film in 11 weeks definitely helped. Strong family showing where Sunday > Friday without preview #.

Ryan definitely helped more than John did. Quiet Place and If are so different but Ryan has shown he can anchor family movies now.

Probably would have done mid to high $20s if there was real competition in the thick of summer where the family demand and lack of competition weren't as advantageious. Only 3 other movies made more than $3M.

its a holiday in Canuck land tomorrow. That helps with strong hold today. Plus Reynolds himself being from there means it will over index big time over there.

Apparently the Fall Guy opened to less than 1 million in China
