Charlie has Ghostbusters at $4.5M in previews. Audience reception is mixed to meh. He's expecting high 30s weekend.

# is $4.7m. Would think this would be OK for 40m but we'll see.

Not a very good hold for Dune to be 51% down week over week on Thursday despite keeping many IMAX screens. Hopefully it does better over the weekend.

Seems decent to be close to Ghostbusters Afterlife's Thursday

$100M budget up from $75M on the last one. To save face, they just need to get this past $100M.

Dune 2 $2,168,887 -51%

KFP4 $1,699,135 -61%

Dune's drop went from 42% to 51% from Monday to Thursday.
KFP4 went from 56% to 61% from Monday to Thursday.

I think the dailies aren't too discouraging yet week over week because of the spring break impact. If the Friday gross is down over 50% though, that's discouraging.

Deadline is saying 16m friday and 42-43m OW. Not bad considering its presales were meh and it had good walkups today to hit good Friday/OW.

Dune - 4.6m
Panda - 4.3m

Dune lost PLF and so was hit while Panda probably was affected by Ghostbusters.

Dune needs a 4.99X multiplier from DHD estimate to reach $300M.

KFP needs a 5.46X multiplier to reach $200M. Will need an unheard of jump over Easter.

May need to wait longer for our first $300M+ film of the year. Looking like it could be Inside Out 2 in June now.

Dune had a decent hold in the face of ghostbusters.

Kung Fu Panda not as much.

Thought Arthur the King could do a bit better than this

Immaculate # is OK. With a big push I think it could've gone for 10m+ but it's low budget so good for Sweeney.

Also looks like One Love may miss 100m

I still have hope for One Love. It will be at about $95.5M by the end of the weekend and Easter is next weekend.

It also lost 44.3% of its theaters and it's PTA managed to only drop 22.1%.

Also from Empire:

Huge Saturday increases. Dune could do $8M, Frozen Empire could do $16M. Frozen Empire is playing like a family film and is expecting a small decrease on Sunday.

That would be a 32% drop compared to last Sat. for Dune 2 and sets it up well for Easter. KFP4 was hit hardest but there's finally some choice for family audiences after 3.5 months of Migration only.

KFP recovered well over the weekend. Hopefully it can get a sub 40% drop next week though.

If Dune Part 2 followed Zootopia from here it would still only get to 285-290m. 300m is dead but maybe Messiah can hit 300m if it’s good.

Good, but not good enough for the holdovers to reach the milestones we want from them. Dune will need a Maverick-like extended run into the summer now to reach Rings level. :(

$46M = great for the Stranger Things Ghostbusters and proof that people want this franchise to live

$46M = a total flop for the Bridesmaids Ghostbusters and proof that nobody wants woke garbage

Dune is not making 300m and Panda is not making 200m either. Still phenomenal numbers for both the movies. Dune is looking at 700m WW while Panda is looking at 500m.

Amazing saturday for Ghostbusters. Its behaving like a family movie and hopefully has a good run to finish around afterlife domestic.

People suck, but, the 2016 film did cost almost $50 million more (at least).

But yeah the 2016 film was never given a fair shake. And what's funny is audiences probably would've been more accepting if it had released a year or two after Bridesmaids.

It'll have to keep playing like one too or else it's probably dropping like a rock against Godzilla x Kong next weekend, even if that looks awful.

It's a great result for Ghostbusters but I'm unclear what exactly it means.

Clearly playing as a family film but with inflation the same result as during Nov 2021 in Covid. Was the box office then really that depressed or would that have done say $60M in normal times?

We've seen 3 Ghostbusters movies now do $44-46M over a 8 year period unadjusted for inflation so just seems that people that like Ghostbusters will keep showing up.

A "what if" of the 2020 / 2021 box office runs would be interesting. By the end of the year we'll see a lot of sequels from that era come out and can gauge just how much money they really lost out on from day streaming, etc.

It cost almost double the 2021 film, plus the 2021 film was graded on a covid curve.

I was expecting Ghostbusters to do sub-40 so good enough for them to make another one probably.

Charlie posted 43m earlier so glad that wasnt the case

Post subject:  Re: Ghostbusters Weekend (March 22-24)

Charlie still thinks Sony fudged it to make it look like it out opened afterlife. Monday drop was 74% to 2.875m. That is way too high for this week. Even Panda is dropping under70% based on Charlie's number(1.65m) while Dune Monday is 1.8m(charlie said 1.9). We will get actuals as usual around 4PM EST.

I thought both films sucked, infact i also think Ghostbusters 2 sucks.
The first one is a classic, the rest of the films in the franchise are mediocre.
