January 26-28 Predictions
There’s literally no wide releases this weekend besides a few Indian releases.

Re: January 26-28 Predictions
This is where films should have platformed to wise such as Ferrari and American Fiction.
It is pathetic on behalf of the studios.

Re: January 26-28 Predictions
Yeah this would be a good weekend for some expansion. So silly Holdovers is on streaming/Peacock. Could've had a long box office run.
Miller's Girl comes out but doubt it'll do anything notable.

Re: January 26-28 Predictions
Miller's Girl opens here on Thursday night. I'm baffled I've seen no advertising for it whatsoever. There are no TV ads that I can find. I've never seen the trailer in theaters. You'd think with it having a weekend to itself and starring a big name like Jenna Ortega they'd at least be pushing it some. Maybe social media will be enough. My co-worker told me the other day there was a movie she was dying to see. She went to show me the trailer and it was for this. This could have potentially opened to high single digit millions or in the low teens if they'd actually given it a marketing push. Anyway, a bunch of Oscar movies are coming back to theaters. My theater gets Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, Barbie, and The Holdovers. Thanksgiving is returning to 300+ theaters. Such a random movie to bring back. Thanksgiving is long over . Saltburn would have been a better one to bring back. Also, many theaters are getting the black and white version of Godzilla Minus One.

MG could have done something but it seems like they didn't even try marketing wise

Re: January 26-28 Predictions
It might only take $7-7.5M+ to win this weekend. Felt like an awards expander taking #1 would have been great for its campaign. Top 3 could be a free for all if studios really push those expansions. Picking the weekend rankings pre Tuesday #'s coming out should be interesting but will be very nod and streaming dependent.

Re: January 26-28 Predictions
Some of the Oscar movies really should have gone wide this weekend. I guess the strike was a big unknown but still.
The next month or so is not much better. Which means Dune has possibly the easiest release date of any movie ever now, zero competition in theatres.

Re: January 26-28 Predictions
Yeah, Dune is going to explode even more than it would normally have done. The has to be one of the most open weekends for a tentpole to open since No Way Home's OW.

Oppenheimer coming to 1,262 locations this weekend.
Hoping it gets enough of a boost to stay in theater till Oscar night.

Holdovers 1,267 locations.
This weekend is truly going to be a free for all. Mean Girls dropping a lot. Literally only need $7M maybe to win the weekend.
