Mandalorian & Grogu movie is coming to be directed by Jon Favreau and going into production this year. Sounds like it could be released in late 2025.

How big will this be? Seems like a very smart move considering this is SW IP that people care about and will show up to.

I'll say looking good for $200M+.

Will this and Avatar 3 be released close together?
Mandalorian Season 3 was meh received, so probably wouldn't do as well as if this came after season 2.

Maybe 300m total if its lucky.

If they're planning a December 2025 release then Disney must not be confident that Cameron will have Avatar 3 ready by then.

This should do well but obviously won't come close to Force Awakens, Last Jedi, Rogue One or Rise of Skywalker (these numbers look a lot better now than they did in 2019 where every movie was hitting a billion.) It will certainly do much better than the Rey movie unless that ends up becoming Episode X.

This would have been good when Mando was at its height after S2.

Now interest has waned because of Season 3.

This should still get over $200m as long as Pedro is in this as the Mando.

Yeah, looks like another Avatar delay is on the cards.

if they make this a standalone movie and focus alot on Grogu being cute and grumpy (like Mando season 1 and 2 to a lesser extent) and don't try too much this could easily be a success, but that's almost surely not happening

It's actually insane how they had the best set up for a franchise ever with the original cast back for Force Awakens, and they completely destroyed it by killing them all off unceremoniously (and not forcing Leia into rehab) and focusing on boring dry characters no1cared about with zero romance (a big underrated part of the originals and prequels), to the point where now the most exciting thing that's coming from this series is a spin off movie with two random characters created for a TV show.

And it'll all be for the.... fire nation, followed by the.... wind or earth nation (can't tell if the Na'Vi were meant to be earth or wind)....

Like he is really not just ripping off Pocahontas but also The Last Airbender

Yes, Avatar is one giant rip-off!

Agreed. Especially considering Mando/Grogu was supposed to be in an assemble movie they included the adjacent series (Ahsoka, Boba Fett, etc). I wish they were patient.

You mean Avatar: The Last Airbender? It's been there all along!

I am having a few more doubts on this one. Fanbases on streaming to theatrical seem to not have a huge number of success stories. Ortega has seemed to between streaming / film well though and seems to choose smart roles.

Eh I think it will do more by a fair margin, there will be 8 years of inflation + maybe a bit of demand for a theatrical SW movie + it’s not releasing 5 months after another SW movie with bad reception

Nobody cares about the Mandalorian any more.

They should have released it this year. Mando love is cooling off.

Unless they plan another season prior to this film's release as Season 3 was not loved.

Disney putting the first two episodes of season 3 onto the end of the Boba Fett spin was a bold but poor move. Show never revovered from it. Movie is gonna have a really cool poster though. They can and probably will use cgi Luke, Han and Leia on screen together, giving fans something that the sequel trilogy never did.

I've never gotten over the insane decision of actually putting important stuff in Boba, like the Luke scenes probably are more significant to the overall story than anything that happened in the real Season 3.

Interesting how the post-Mandalorian & Grogu Ahsoka season will go given that I'm assuming the movie will be the culmination of the Admiral Thrawn storyline but that was the central plot of Ahsoka as well.
