 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Sonic 3 has 2.5x presales of Mufasa at this point for previews. There is no chance for Mufasa to beat Sonic OW at this point. Pace for Mufasa is still meh. Sonic is accelerating big time.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Keanu + Christmas is a big value here.
The whole Jay Z news and showing up to the Mufasa premiere IMO isn't going to do this film any favors either as the go to family film. It looked very strange to see him show up with Mufasa's logo behind 1 or 2 days after the news went out.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Sonic $75m Mufasa $55m
Mufasa will probably rebound over Christmas once people have seem Sonic.
Pedo Jay Z attending the premiere was no doubt another selfish thing he’s done - possibly hurting the film. Optics are bad. That said Disney has amped up the marketing big time so OW wont be a total bust.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
I am shocked at these sub $50m Mufasa predictions. Maybe the buzz and anticipation is lower than I realize.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
I think Mufasa still gets to $55-65m with walk-ups.
Its about 1.5 x Wonka at the same stage in its pre-release but Wonka was building up where as Mufasa seems to be flatlining.

I guess they were afraid to say no to Beyonce. Or maybe they did and he showed up anyway and they didn't want to cause a scene.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Mufasa starts at 53% at RT with 5.7/10 avg rating. Metacritic is at 59. Slightly better than TLK but not enough to convince the skeptics for sure.
its definitely not sniffing 50m for sure. Previews and friday to thursday skew in presales indicate its going to have worse IM than even Sonic 3. Plus its too close to holidays. Families will wait until Christmas where it has sold more than its OD at this point.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Any other insights on what we can expect Christmas and New Year's week?
Which movies are doing better from holdovers, and what do Sonic's best days look like?

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Sonic Presales skew OW for now. But its presales for Christmas will amp up as we hit the weekend. Mufasa has good presales for Christmas. It was bigger than opening Friday couple of days ago. Beyond those 2 I have looked at Nosferatu(really good presales for Christmas day) and Complete Unknown(half as much as Nosferatu at this point).
I am thinking low double digits or even as much as early teens for Nosferatu. Complete Unknown mid to high single digits. Mufasa could still win Christmas but let us wait for WOM before judging final growth. Sonic number is hard to extrapolate at this point. Its only half the presales of Mufasa for christmas but late surge should be stronger.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Wtf is a Homestead? I thought that actor only did car commercials...
Did anyone believe the "Mufasa is actually really good" early reviews? "They got Barry Jenkins, he wouldn't make a bad movie!" As if Barry doesn't have bills to pay too. Moonlight may have won the oscar but it didn't exactly make him a billionaire.
Hoping Sonic 3 is good. The first wasn't amazing, but it was a lot of fun. The second dragged hard once they were done introducing all the nostalgia characters. I remember there was a 30-40 minute scene at a destination wedding that felt like the finale of the movie except that it went on for like another hour afterwards.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Mid to high single digits for Complete Unknown and double digits for Nosferatu would be huge and give both a chance at 100m total.

I enjoyed the first, but completely agree on the second. It felt neverending and has kind of turned me off from the series.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Agreed I prefer the first over the second. To be fair though - I ate something bad prior to seeing the second and spent half the film in the toilet lol

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Mufasa is crashing in OS markets where we have data. Korea < 20% of TLK OD. What ever presales data we have also shows big drop from last movie. Of course the last one still grossed 1.1B OS. So even with big drop it should still hit good OS numbers. Deadline is predicting 130m OS OW. With holidays it should hit 500m OS.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Also its presales for Mufasa previews look so bad that I am bumping down its OW to ~30m. Sonic should at least hit Sonic 2 numbers.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Sonic 3 at 88% so far on RT, most saying its by far the best in the trilogy and the best Jim Carrey has been i a long while.

 Re: December 20-22 Predictions
Flava'd vs The World wrote: Wtf is a Homestead? I thought that actor only did car commercials... I hadn't paid much attention to this movie, aside from noticing it on the release schedule and seeing its poster on Rotten Tomatoes. Out of curiosity, I decided to check the Rotten Tomatoes page to see if there were any reviews. Some quotes mentioned it leading into a TV show, so I did some further investigating. It turns out it's essentially an extended pilot episode for a show that debuts the same day on the Angel Studios website and app. The movie ends by encouraging viewers to "pay it forward" by purchasing a ticket for someone else, which in turn allows you to watch the first episode of the show for free. This is so insane. Personally, I avoid religious films, but if I went to any movie expecting a complete story and encountered this bait-and-switch, I'd be pissed. It reminds me of the film The Devil Inside, which abruptly ended by directing viewers to a website to see the conclusion. Angel Studios is shameless. From Reddit user Shart_InTheDark: Quote: Just came from seeing the movie-it was free and had virtually no familiar actors save a few lower tier ones-who did alright. I went in with higher hopes for it-prob because I am a low key prepper (lets say lowest level of liberal prepper. I was entertained enough, particularly for the first 4/5ths...but the religious stuff kept coming up more and more (for background: I am a believer in a higher power - but with lots of questions - I do call that higher power "god" but again I don't have as much faith as most) and I was like...oh I guess I have been suckered into a movie with a message. That was not the worst part though. It really felt like it failed to launch...like there was some minor action but I think everyone was expecting more...then suddenly it ends saying "The End...is just the beginning. Then some actor from the movie-not a main character comes on screen speaking to the audience and asking us to "Pay it Forward" and a QR code comes on screen for us to scan and pay for someone else to see the movie for free and in turn we could watch the first episode free in a series that would start right where it left off. I literally laughed out loud. If your trying to convert people, just make a good movie...don't bait and switch them. I went to see an apocalypse movie...throw in a little religion if you must but this was something else. Feel like I just came from a Time Share Sales demo. That's my take. Still entertaining if you were bored, but would have been much better if they had just delivered a full movie than what they did here. The thing about faith is...don't be scammy about it. It prob will scare more people off and only attract those that are already fully onboard. Would love to hear what others think.
