I was wondering if this July 4 weekend will be like Memorial day weekend, where you have a weekend and off on Monday(Holiday)?

So will movies have low drops on both Sunday and Monday or will they drop normal on Sunday and increase on Monday?

The last time July 4th was a Monday was 1994, so we don't have daily numbers to make a direct comparison with. However, I would expect better-than-normal holds on both Sunday and Monday, but not as strong as on Memorial Day weekend because people generally do outdoor stuff on July 4th, even more so than on Memorial Day.

Sundays drops will not be near as much as always just due to the fact everyone has work off the next day...

Now as for monday I have no idea really because 4th of july day has always varied mainly due to weather etc

Thanks guys, it was on my mind for a while, and your right because we don't have the daily data for 1994 so we don't know how it will behave, and even if we did I don't think it would help since it is soo long ago.

July 4th is normally the worst holiday day for movies, since many will be enjoying fireworks and other outdoor activities. This year since it falls on Monday, expect big drops on Monday but great holds on Sunday.

Don't forget good increases on Tuesday, since July 5th is always jam packed at theaters. So Could this be considered a five-day weekend.

I agree that Monday will probably have movies drop between 20 and 30%, and Tuesday will have increases like between 15% and 30%. This will be one long frame.

Well that bodes well for providing a gross boost for the likes of Sith later in its run.

I don't think people have Tuesday off though. Last year it fell on Sunday, so Monday became a holiday, but this year it's already on Monday. Since most don't have Tuesday off, I think Monday's falls will be a little higher, in the 40-50% range. Last year, it caused Sunday to behave like a regular Sunday, with films dropping 20-40%, even though we had Monday off. And in 2003, when it fell on Friday, the Friday increases were minimal.

I do not think the 5th will be factor. Last year everyone had it off from work beause it was a Monday and the holdiay was a Sunday. Two years ago it was a Saturday(boost there). There years ago it was a Friday and most people who could took an extra vacation day from work.

I think a lot of people will have on Tuesday as well. At least that is how it usually works. When the 4th fell on Thursday a few years ago, most people had off Thursday-Sunday. When it fell on Wednesday I believe a lot of people were off Wednesday-Thursday and then Saturday-Sunday.

I didn't follow box office at that time though so I can't comment on grosses.
