Re: Nov 17 - 19 Weekend #'s
This Thanksgiving weekend looks pretty crowded, first time in awhile that 3 reservations for A-List isn't enough to see what I want to see. Curious to see how everything holds. Hoping Hunger Games has a good weekend.

Both movies did fine I guess. Hunger is obviously way down from the Jlaw ones but also way higher than anything else Lionsgate could put out and on a reasonable budget.
Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving is the number I'm most interested in right now.

The prequel book wasn’t nearly as popular as the original books so never should’ve been expected to match them.

And the Marvels’ fate is sealed, dropping a whopping 87% Friday to Friday This is barely gonna out gross Blue Beetle. Never thought it would miss 100m total! Marvel is clearly In DC territory right now.

80% OW-to-second-weekend-drop
I don't know who had the worst catastrophic implosion this year: OceanGate submarine or the MCU

Re: Nov 17 - 19 Weekend #'s
For LOL this is what Variety predicted for this weekend. Quote: Disney’s $220 million budgeted superhero sequel “The Marvels.” After a disappointing $47 million debut, the comic book tentpole is bracing for a 50-55% drop, which puts ticket sales around $21 million to $23 million in its sophomore outing. https://variety.com/2023/film/news/box- ... 235790861/

Variety has become a joke. That’s laughable.

Re: Nov 17 - 19 Weekend #'s
$10.2M tied for #3. Hmm, thanks Puerto Rico for keeping this above double digits. Also -31.8% drop on Sunday, with Sunday being bigger than Friday's gross? Hmm... Also, it dropped not only MCU's worst second weekend drop ever but also Morbius so is tops for all comic book movies.

Ooof. One for the record books for sure. Captain Marvel surely will still be in the Avengers films but I doubt a 3rd film will happen. That's crazy.
Hunger Games opening is meh.

Pretty good for Salburn. I doubt it will expand well without being a serious awards contender though.
The Marvels reckoning has been completed. Won't even be able to get any boost from Christmas break like Wakanda Forever. It will be out of theaters by then lol.

The first sub $100m MCU film. It took 15 years and 33 films but finally it was achieved.

Re: Nov 17 - 19 Weekend #'s
Now we'll get a real test for Disney+. As Disney's content gets less big movie and tv lustre with MCU, Pixar, Disney animation, live action and SW going through a transition, will they start to see significantly bigger cuts on their subscribers? I saw this link below and I'm super impressed that Turning Red was #4 recently on Disney Plus even so long after its initial release. I feel like that sequel is going to do really well. Loki also still has a huge fanbase. The marquee MCU event this season was Loki with Marvels not even close viewer wise. A Loki season 2 movie would probably have doubled Marvels theatrical imo. https://twitter.com/TVGrimReaper/status ... 87/photo/1

Hunger Games opening is meh. Lol the fact Captain Marvel was allegedly supposed to be the main character for the next Avengers..... You can bet they are in full panic mode rn

You can bet they are in full panic mode rn And then the main villain they went with got arrested. For anyone keeping score, MCU had 3 $144M+ OW's last year with Thor, Dr. Strange and BP2. 2 $180M+ movies. 2023 saw $106M, $118M and then $46M. DP3 doing $250M+ even if that's down from the previous two would still be a win considering how much the brand has been hit this year.

Re: Nov 17 - 19 Weekend #'s
What's crazy is if Dune stayed and did well... would Marvels and Hunger Games have done worse? I feel like the #s would have been similar still, but we would blame Dune if it was a huge hit. Both Marvels and Hunger Games got the big fans but probably less of the casual fan or general audience...

Re: Nov 17 - 19 Weekend #'s
Hunger Games more or less did the minimum to be considered "decent." If it can leg it out over the holidays to reach $150 million, that'll be somewhat good. Definitely helps they went with a $100m budget versus what could have been $150/200m+ that we've seen just about every big film have lately.
Marvels is unfortunate. I know Marvel needed a wakeup call regarding their general quality in recent years, but a finish below $100m and I'm guessing sub-$200m WW (haven't checked) feels more damaging than cautionary for the MCU to me, especially since most are saying it's an overall good movie here. Not to mention how this further harms movie theaters during what should be some of the best weeks of the year.
