Post September 4-7 Predictions: TeNeT Time
Tenet opens with "Early Access" on Monday, so this is kind of an eight day weekend for it.

Nolan fans are hardcore, but there's only so much they can do. So I'm gonna go ~$4.5M for the four days of Early Access, ~$12M for the 3-day weekend and $18-19M for the eight day total. Hopefully it can leg it out to at least $100M after this.

That might lower its opening weekend further. Here's hoping it will be the signal to open more theaters.

This is gonna be an interesting weekend.

I'm thinking Tenet is gonna play for awhile so opening below 20m probably isn't alarming unless it drops big 2nd weekend.

An industry saving, movie-goer inspiring, faith-rewarding opening of $40m.

Theater Counts:

The New Mutants - 2,754 (+342)
Unhinged - 2,402 (+71)
The Personal History of David Copperfield - 1,550 (+190)
Words on Bathroom Walls - 1,167 (-189)
Bill & Ted Face the Music - 953 (-54)

No word on Tenet's count yet.

I'm really hoping Tenet does well, but I have no idea how GA will respond to it. It should atleast be able to $30M with the extended holiday and the early access/Thursday numbers included, but who knows at this point.

The audience reaction will be mixed-to-positive because I feel GA will go in thinking Inception and "might" get disappointed. I don't think $30m will happen but it will be great if that happens.

I think of New Mutants can hit 7m - this can get to 25m at least.

Warner Bros. is clearly not pleased with how Tenet opened.

It's a bit strange they haven't reported any numbers.

I think Tenet’s worldwide boxoffice opening bodes well in the near term. Given reduced theater capacity Tenet did pretty well, all things considering.

The theaters are almost all open in many OS countries with 50-60% capacity if not more. Tenet's OS numbers are great but its domestic numbers are not

It's hard to say if they're really good or not, just on the fact it's a strange market right now. It's not an amazing number in itself, but what to compare it with?

Considering it did 2.5x New Mutants opening weekend is actually pretty decent.

In a normal environment New Mutant would have hardly done $15m/$30m domestically. I bet that Tenet would have beaten its total over OW domestically. Stating 2x opening from these low numbers is not the right comparison. New Mutants was delayed like a thousand times, is from a dying studio, had next to zero marketing and was put of schedule at the last minute. Tenet had a completely different set of parameters for its release.

I wish they could try opening a movie more people actually want to see. I'm not convinced that many care about Tenet. It looked so confusing from the trailers and reviews aren't the raves it should have had. I know overall they're good but they're underwhelming enough that I don't even care about seeing it anymore. And with word that so much of the dialogue is hard to hear I'd rather just watch it on Blu-ray with subtitles.

I don't think it will open this year but I'd be very curious how Wonder Woman would do.

Post Re: September 4-7 Predictions: TeNeT Time
Given that Tenet didn't get a good release with the pandemic and Oppenheimer overperforming, I think it would be fun to have Tenet get some type of re-release or something in the fall, especially with the strike happening.

Nolan is clearly having a huge moment and I think a lot of people who never got the chance to see Tenet on a big screen could possibly see it.

It just happens to be that one is a WB movie and another is Universal but maybe by some miracle it can at least get to $75M.

Also, anyone getting back memories of a studio rolling up 10 days of showings (Canada) and reporting it into a weekend #? Sound familiar?!
