Joy Ride - $1.1m

Considering this is probably 3 days worth of previews... not a great #. Hopefully goes for high single digits.

Yeah insidious looked like a break out with recent horror films floundering. I know too many people who went to see it or want to see it.

Dam I should have gone higher on Insidious. Its been a very consistent franchise. I guess audiences aren't just waiting for Barbenheimrt and it really was just that they didn't want to see Indy and Flash. That's good news for Dead Reckoning.

I think Elio can open 40m+ next March and continue a upwards trajectory for Pixar.

Honestly I’ll be devastated if Joy Ride opens that low :( , not just for the movie itself but for the genre. I sure as hell hope it does better and doesn’t collapse

A $295M film got knocked out of #1 after a long weekend by a $16M film in its second weekend. Just can't make this stuff up. The signs were there for a breakout and Boogeyman will pull a 4X multiplier so there was an audience craving for horror.

Sound of Freedom could be at $41M by the end of the weekend. It would need a 6X multiplier from this weekend to possibly beat The Flash. Won't happen but just a very strange summer box office curveball.

Elemental dropped 24% week over week but has the inflated Sunday. If it can leg it out to $150M saves face quite a bit. Will also make the top 50 films to never be #1 if it gets to $142M.

Spiderverse still chugging along. No $400M but will pull off a 3X multiplier this week which is pretty impressive.

Sound of Freedom could top Avatar if they keep distributing the free tickets. :funny:

We joke, but if a billionaire decides to give away free tickets, and it leads to a $1B domestic movie, would that still technically count?

I feel like every now and then a movie comes out that changes a lot of the type of marketing campaign that is done like Blair Witch. Sound's run will have a big impact here as the grosses go higher. If it manages a great second weekend hold somehow too, would be something.

Joy Ride always looked niche, pretty much appealing only to ABCs and a small fluttering of gay people. Not surprised by its opening.

Lovely for Insidious. Apparently it's not very good but that shouldn't matter for its opening. It's a consistent brand.

I don't know any of the Joy Ride castmembers except Hsu. Maybe if it plays better if it was Hsu, Awkwafina, Jamie Chung and the girl from Parasite.

Insidious - 15.2

Very, very strong. 30m seems possible?

Patrick Wilson = Scream King.

Elemental continues to hold incredibly. Spiderverse is fading though. It will need to keep its screens throughout August to limp over $400M - but thats unlikely. :-/

Bad for Indy considering complete lack of competition. A true flop.

The second one only had an weekend multiplier of 2, but I think Friday the 13th had a lot to do with shifting most of its gross to the first day. There's no way Red Door falls 50% on Sunday. I bet the final number is closer to $35M.

Boogeyman (which was supposed to be direct to Hulu... smh) had a 3.42 multiplier so there is a hunger for horror. Evil Dead probably would've done better in the summer.

I saw someone on twitter compare Elemental's performance with Elvis and it's not entirely off. If it somehow hits close to $150m domestic/$400m WW then that'd not be a hit but a step in the right direction for Pixar
