$130m is wow? Dude, people were predicting $180m+

I tend to agree. As big as it will be - there is a tad of disappointment thanks to inflated predictions. I actually went $107m before being swayed to up it too $127m which it probably won’t reach

It should hold a bit better throughout the weekend than Guardians for like 125m OW but definitely more front loaded than expected

In no universe, other than one's own personal one, is almost a $50m OD (if Shawn is correct in his reporting) and I assume $120/125 OW or so disappointing here.

Expectations lately seem very... unrealistic. I also see a lot of people on Twitter basically calling anything under $1 billion worldwide disappointing for any film these days (when it fact it's harder to reach that mark than ever in around 5 years).

Seems like everything is going to be considered disappointing this year.

The numbers overall aren’t disappointing, just the multiple.

Fast X is an embarrassment domestically. Guaranteed to be the worst attended film outside of Tokyo Drift and finish below 150m

$48.5M would be much better. I'd still like to see $50M though.

Good chance to finish below Furious 7’s opening.

Great opening for spidey, ok holds, boy with guardians and fast ending, riddick and xxx maxed out, what the hell is Vin going to do.

RTH and others are saying 52m. Empire is saying 53m just now. So its no where in the ballpark of what Deadline said. It seems someone was drunk while posting the numbers and put in 40 instead of 50m :-)

Vin on TV would be interesting.

Assuming y'all are right, Deadline was being chaotic and wanted to see reactions.

Post Re: Spider-verse 2 Dailies
Random box office trivia, Spider-verse 2 will be one of the top sequel openings ever where a predecessor made under $200M.

33 The Twilight Saga: New Moon $142,839,137 $296,623,634 Nov 20, 2009
44 Top Gun: Maverick $126,707,459 $718,732,821 May 27, 2022
85 The Matrix Reloaded $91,774,413 $281,576,461 May 15, 2003
95 Skyfall $88,364,714 $304,360,277 Nov 9, 2012
98 Fast Five $86,198,765 $209,837,675 Apr 29, 2011
101 X2: X-Men United $85,558,731 $214,949,694 May 2, 2003

All of these movies had not yet seen a film do $200M+ in their franchises though TGM/Skyfall predecessors adjusted for inflation almost would have certainly been past there.

Twilight's sequel increase was really something to go from a $60s to a $140M+ OW between films as was Matrix's spike.

MERMAID around $11.5m...

Just realized Spider-verse's demo breakdown (73% non-Caucasian) is even more diverse than Fast X (71%).

Deadline has its weekend estimate at $113M. Hoping it holds well over the weekend.

Every $50M+ opening day film has made $281M+ or higher (with 46/50 times the films doing $300M+ other than 3 Twilight movies and 1 HP movie) so great to see another $300M+ movie as Spider-verse is highly likely to do, and expected at much higher.

Is the budget for Spiderverse really $100m!? That's crazy if so.

To go from $28M 2 Fridays ago now to $2.6M really is atrocious for Fast. For comparison sake, Tokyo Drift had an equivalent $1.4M and that is without 17 years of inflation. It's already made $406M overseas so guess that doesn't matter much.

No US movie has ever grossed under $150M and made it to $700M+ globally though Mamma Mia came close with $694,476,782 and $144,169,664 domestic total.

Life of Pi ($609,016,565/$124,987,023) Ready Player One ($607,274,134/$137,715,350)and Transformers: The Last Knight ($605,425,157/$130,168,683) are the only other 3 US movies that have done $600M+ globally with domestic tallies under $150M.

That there's a chance Fast gets beat by Transformers domestic is embarrassing

And the fact they announced a new Fast film with the Rock that is another spinoff... lolol I honestly like the franchise but it has run its course. The next one should be the last one.

Fast X kind of set up Hobbs and Shaw 2 even though those two only had a combined five minutes of screen time. And honestly I'm more interested in watching Statham save his mum than more of Dom v The Joker.

Mojo has Spiderverse at $69.1M Friday. :funny:

So the numbers is still better even when their website isn't working.

Did Roman Reigns survive the first movie?
