MI is a pretty consistent franchise around 200m total. I think the opening will be another "disappointment".

$125M 5-day sounds like a good number. 10/25/15/25/30/25 or something like that.

I really do not buy these huge numbers for Mission Impossible. I feel like it'll do a little better than Fallout and people will cry flop.

Tentatively thinking:

Wednesday: $25 million ($9.5M previews)
Thursday: $12 million
Friday: $20 million
Saturday: $24 million
Sunday: $20 million

$64M for the weekend, $101M through Sunday. I think people expecting this to perform like Maverick 2 are getting ahead of themselves, but that movie's success and re-elevation of Cruise's megastar status should give it at least a little boost, along with the this franchise becoming a consistent crowd-pleaser.

Anyone have thoughts on how these Walmart previews and other previews will be incorporated into the box office tallies? I assume opening day previews. Seems like it could appear frontloaded due to that.

It has 3 days of previews lol. They'll probably all roll into one preview # but there may be some breakdowns

I'm also getting that vibe a bit now. Hoping for more but around a $225m finish wouldn't surpise me.

Based on data seen at BOT. Wednesday sales are meh but weekend is better. I won't be surprised if bo till Tuesday > Wednesday BO.

I switched my Dead Reckoning ticket from a 630 to a 930 and was shocked to see how few seats had been sold. The entire row D (my fav) was empty. Ruh oh!

Sound of Freedom I read had an audience breakdown that was 1/3 Hispanic. I think this will be much leggier than I originally expected as more community members watch it. Wouldn't be shocked if it plays till Labor Day now.

The row D forecast is what finally convinced me that Indy was going to flop. :P

Its not a huge theater, but all the biggest openers are full on opening night.

It's the UK but my screening today is surprisingly well-filled for a midday showing on a work day. I think there's genuine massive interest for Dead Reckoning. It feels like a mini-Maverick in that it will open not massively but nicely, and then have legs carry it to a $350+ total.

If you ever wanted to see consistent progression:

And M:I-2 is 55% so it's a run of five increases. It will be difficult for Dead Reckoning Part 2 to carry on the streak.

I definitely feel for MI. On literally any other weekend this year it would have been the massive event but the Barbie press and marketing is drowning a lot of the fact that MI is out this week.

It's a lot to ask some people to watch 3 movies in a week and a half period during a downturn too and feel like Oppenheimer may benefit more from Barbie spillover than MI does at least domestically.

It would be frustrating to have such a good film not get the love it otherwise would get from audiences due to competition especially post TGM saving the film industry.

Could see MI have great legs weekend 3 on after Barbie's release.

Once again, everyone expects MI to finally breakout on opening weekend but it just doesn't happen. so weird.

I have never seen a MI film. Do they follow a continuous story, or can they be enjoyed as standalone films?

If this one only does $250m or less, would it be fair to say the lack of growth once again could just be due to a lack of audience? Hard to get new people to come out if it's a seventh entry in a continuous story.

International numbers will be down considerably this time, as they have been for everything this year, so with a $290m budget... won't be easy making a profit on this one.

I feel they work very well as standalone films. There's less continuity as a critical factor to enjoy the movies compared to even the Fast films which do mention earlier events more often. The cameos in Fast movies have more punch for those who've seen the earlier films.

I still have hope that maybe it will get good legs weekend 3 on and stay around until Oppenheimer's 3 week exclusive on IMAX is done.

I agree, they don't depend on continuity really at all other than introducing new members of the team here and there.

2 days away from opening day for MI and:

Don't see a mention anywhere as I scroll down Variety's page. Saw one mention of Barbie.

Saw one mention on DHD with it's box office related article trending at #5.

On THR, now has the top of the page after an article was posted tonight with another mention of the review below. 3 mentions of Barbie elsewhere.

On People, 4 mentions of Barbie none of MI.

One movie is opening in a week and a half and the other in about 36 hours.

It's always a new story for Ethan, but characters from past films will show up and continue their own storylines. Except for MI2. That one seems to have been forgotten about completely.
