 Shrek 5 predictions
The internet seems to look back at the Shrek franchise positively so I think this should do incredibly well.

It will do about 350-400 if it’s decent.

The floor is $300 million. It could double the recent Puss in Boots movie easy.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
Feel KFP4 has given us the best barometer for a Shrek 5 given it was harder to tell from a spinoff alone.to be a $186M box office sensation from a $12.4M OW. That was 11 years after Puss #1.
Last Shrek movie was in 2010. Last KFP movie was 2016. Panda could do $170-210M I think. It very much took the reins along with Madagascar and Dragon of their post Shrek phase.
Certainly feels like Shrek 5 would look good for $300M+. Feels the nostalgia and audience is much broader. A rebound back to about $350M or more would not be shocking.
Adjusted tallies: Shrek 1 $526.5M Shrek 2 $791.1M Shrek 3 $522.3M Shrek 4 $334.9M
Again, KFP4's opening day demo was only 22% Caucasian and 2/3 13-24. I'd expect Shrek is going to be an even bigger multiquadrant event.
Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy seem to be coming back just at the right time from career hiatuses.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
Shrek 2 is actually getting a 20th anniversary re-release next month on April 12, so that will be another solid measurement for just how much nostalgia there is for Shrek (and I do think there's a lot).

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
Apparently an intern accidentally posted on her LinkedIn last fall that Shrek 5 was coming out in 2025. I think 2026 is a good possibility too since it will be 25 years since the original Shrek's release. I think the fact we haven't heard anything about a Puss In Boots 3 is indicative that they wanted a Shrek sequel out before so it must have pushed forward in early development in early 2023 (when Puss was having extraordinary legs).

Also Diaz out of retirement, Myers has been doing a lot of interviews and murphy’s Netflix deal ending does seem the time to do it, if ever

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
The next Shrek if marketed well will target $500m plus domestic. Its primed fir a break out. I’d say it could even outgross The Incredibles 2

The ending of Puss 2 alluded to a return to the world of Shrek. Will be interesting how they plan to release the two films.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
Panda breaking out makes me think, this is also. Question is how big. Has the production started on this. This is not going to be low budget considering the cast(Myers, Murphy, Diaz, Banderas etc). But potential is also that much bigger compared to Panda.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
I don’t see the budget being that. New rules mean backend deals again. I will say shrek was never known for the visuals. It is seriously the wait between films, at this point. Kids get older and say this is amazing (because) they only watch the first and new kids fall in love. I’m surprised there hasn’t been a new ice age or merge with cross.
Shrek, people care, the cast isn’t coming back for scraps. Come on old donkey dying film (of course magical potion saves him in the end!)
Myers will announce Shrek 5 and Austin powers 4 after the election

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
Making the call now, they'll announce Shrek 5 as a teaser at the beginning or end of Shrek 2 which gets re-released April 12th. Feels like an announcement is very close!

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
So Shrek 2 came out 20 years ago on May 19th.
It went on to reach the top 3 all time domestic and adjusts to $797M now.
Other than The Lion King, it remains the most biggest animated film adjusted since 1961's 101 Dalmations and is behind only the animated classics of the first Disney animated renaissance overall.
Incredibles 2 is next closest at about $743M adjusted and Finding Nemo at $690M.
To put things into perspective, 3 Shreks adjusts to $525M+ now (#1-3) so pulled a Super Mario run close to 3 times.
A Shrek sequel would be a huge event.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
Yes a Shrek sequel is just ripe for exploding. Nostalgia + a bew gen who grew up on Shrek memes + Puss in Boots success bodes extremely well for it.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
It's not outside the realm of possibility that a Shrek 5 could do $200M+ OW by the time it comes out with additional demand and pent up interest. It's got big nostalgia and the spinoff's sequel that came out 11 years later made $180M+ total.

Shrek 5 has been confirmed by Eddie Murphy for Dec. 2025, which apparently he's been filming for a while. Donkey movie is on the way too. https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop ... rcna1587832025 is going to be massive!

I think the first part of 2025 could be flops but the late year will be huge.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
I bet Madagascar 4 won’t be too far behind this. Ice Age was milked to death (last movie was somehow after Inside Out and one year before Despicable Me 3?) but the teaser reaction would be amazing.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
DW just confirmed that Shrek 5 is out July 1, 2026 with the original cast all returning! Smart to shift it from Christmas since it will be 25 years to the original. Walt Dohrn will direct after working as a writer on the second and third films, and head of story on the fourth film. Minions: The Rise of Gru co-director Brad Ableson will co-direct, with Shrek Forever After producer Gina Shay and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri producing. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movie ... 235941271/

July? Weird. Shrek should always be the third weekend of May.
Anyway, 5 day weekend should clear $200M easy. Gonna be a monster.

 Re: Shrek 5 predictions
With 2 additional years of inflation, by 2026 3 of the 4 Shrek films will adjust to $565M+ domestic.
With 16 years of pent up demand (and Puss In Boots 2 re-igniting interest with $186M tally and some of the best legs of the past decade), would be something if it made a run for Shrek 2's adjusted tally ($862M potentially by 2026). If it does Shrek 2 type admissions would just get past Endgame.
I definitely see bigger than Inside Out 2 and Mario so feels like $400M+ is a strong possibility here.
Also Toy Story 5 is opening 2 weeks earlier? Moana live action right after? Then Paw Patrol 3 later in the month. One of those is going to move.
