 January 6-8 Predictions
January looks weak again, but it should get off to a strong start with M3gan, which will see if it can translate online buzz and memes into box office dollars.
I'm saying yes, and it will have the number one opening for an original horror since the pandemic with a 28m opening.

 Re: January 6-8 Predictions
I think there is a solid amount of buzz and curiosity for this one. Plus’s horror is consistent at least. I can see it hot $20m. Hope it goes higher.

 Re: January 6-8 Predictions
This one seems very memeable. I'd guess an opening somewhere between $20-25M.

 Re: January 6-8 Predictions
This feels very much in the vein of Smile so feel it could overperform. It's also so campy looking that it could work. Would be funny as well to see it outopen all of the holiday movies.

 Re: January 6-8 Predictions
I honestly thought it was called M3gan cause there was a horror series I had ignored/blurred together with the other ones with Megan 1 and Megan 2, and now the 3rd one is M3gan

Apparently it's short for Model 3 Generative Android.

 Re: January 6-8 Predictions
I'm excited for this one. 20 Million+ opening easy. First weekend of January is the perfect date to open. January is usually kind to horror. This will be the biggest January opener for sure and with no competition it should have good legs.

January horror is usually a front runner for worst movie of the year, so probably 25

 Re: January 6-8 Predictions
Scream is an established movie franchise. Scream 5 actually had 3 of the original characters from Scream 1 show up. M3GAN isn't proven yet.

Reviews aren't out for it yet but they seem like they'll be good ala Scream last year. Normally shitty horror movies get released in January but last year we actually got one that was well-reviewed and that looks to continue this year.

If reviews are positive, M3gan has more going for it than Smile did and I don't see it missing 20m OW

Also looks like Man Called Otto is significantly expanding this weekend. Could maybe hit the wide release threshold ahead of its nationwide bow on the 13th.

Yeah I could see 800 theaters for Otto this weekend. Quite a few theaters seem to be getting it on Friday.

I see them on my phone. 7/10 avg rating is pretty good for a horror film.

 Re: January 6-8 Predictions
Sentiment seems to be on "campy but creepy." It's already tracking at $20M+ based on the "official" trackers so this has a shot at $30M+ if it really takes off. It's from meme friendly too which should help.
