 Re: Thursday Numbers
Ok well that drop for The Whale is awful. Guess Tuesday night shows helped Wednesday's number more than I thought. Hopefully it rebounds once people have off work.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
I was going to see the Whale tonight but my friend dropped out due to the weather. Surely the weather is going to give everything strong multlipliers

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Avatar is now at $661.4M globally so 1/3 on its way to $2B. Expect it will be at $1B by Dec. 26th.
These storms probably won't help the daily numbers but we could get some insanely high increases next week due to the combo of depressed pre Christmas numbers from weather and flight cancellations and the bump from everyone being off.
Though with the top grossing holdovers outside of Avatar at $906K on Thursday (WF), and Violent Night ($792K), Avatar and Puss are looking like they may be the only things to see. Dance's previews and likely flop of Babylon don't help the year end tally. Babylon may be one of the rare missteps for Paramount this year though they had a sensational year.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Yeah the weather is gonna kill the Friday box office. I wouldn't be surprised if every single movie had a decent increase next weekend. Puss could even go 2x its opening.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
It's clear here, I'm still going to see PIB tomorrow. My friend is overly cautious, IMO. But I know it is much worse elsewhere in the country

 Re: Thursday Numbers
At least we've passed $7B for the year's box office. We're now up to par with the early 2000s box office so are now only 2 decades behind in the post-Covid rebound.

Vancouver has freezing rain right now which is turning the roads into Mario Kart Rainbow Road. I think most of the PNW is the same. No one is going to the movies that's for sure.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Early Friday #'s from Deadline (take with a grain of salt due to the weather):
Avatar 2 $20M / $83M (4day) - 45% / $280.7M.
Puss In Boots $3.75M / $11M (3day) $17.2M (4day). 6 day of $24.1M
I Wanna Dance With Somebody $2.2M / $6.3M (3day) / $9M (4day) 94% audience score so looks like completely not attuned to critics
Babylon $1.6M / $4.5M (3day) / $6.5M (4day) 74% audience score
Violent Night $1.1M (-21%) / $2.95M (3day) / $3.86M (4day) / $42.3M total
These numbers are promising for Avatar with this storm, Puss In Boots and especially curious how Dance does as those are very strong audience scores.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Puss In Boots will get a 10X+ multiplier from that 3day imo. It's got too many factors going for it.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Glass Onion being a Netflix film is such a loss for box office. Would've done similar numbers to the first.

Awful for I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Babylon Even The Whale's # isn't good. Sigh. At least Avatar is doing fine.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Sadly take out Avatar and these numbers look like they're from Christmas 2020. Top holdover (WF) at $3M. Top opener at maybe $10M ish. The post Bullet Train box office has been atrocious in general. The most impressive Christmas film this year in terms of overperformance may be It's A Wonderful Life's 75th anniversary re-release. It's going to make perhaps 20% of the original's unadjusted total. Puss In Boots' I'm not counting out yet. Think that will play for months and it's the only hope for any of this week's openers in all likelihood. Weather, Christmas Eve, tri-demic, inflation aside, I do think there may be a systemic change that will take some time to recover from with streaming. The streaming options were better than many of these Christmas openers and sure Glass Onion was a big marquee event for lots of folks this week.

Yeah, no way in hell would I go out to see a movie in this -1F / -30F (wind chill) weather.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
It's so annoying Universal put Violent Night on demand. While it will still get a Christmas break boost it would have gotten a bigger one if it weren't available to rent/pirate. Nothing can ever leg out and be a sleeper anymore because they don't even have a chance. Plus everyone expects stuff to just be on demand quickly after theaters so many will hold off. They need to stop doing this crap. Paramount was smart for holding off on Top Gun: Maverick and Smile for as long as they did. Obviously Violent Night was still a success but it could have done a bit more. I miss the long theatrical windows.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Only 2 movies over $5.5M over the 3day weekend. Christmas's total box office is estimated at $34M across all films. We're at $7,179,258,950 for the year as of Dec. 25th. Looks like we'll miss $7.5B now.

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Avatar's drop despite Christmas Eve is solid.
Curious how Shazam would've done if it never moved. Probably could've had a disasterous run or could've served as decent alternative to Avatar

 Re: Thursday Numbers
Mojo says it made $56m this weekend. The Numbers also had that number but just changed it to $64 million. That's some increase! At first I thought it could be the 4-day number, but Mojo says it made $26 million on Boxing Day. Anyway, $280 million in 11 days isn't bad.
