Hello all! Time for our eighth annual box office draft game! This year, I think we will draft 13 movies, depending on how many players. I am looking for between 6 and 12 players. It will again be a snake draft, and you pick by posting in the thread in the games forum, and we each take turns making picks.

At the end of 2022, we add up the North American gross of all of the films, and whoever has the highest total wins. Because some movies are released very late in the year, we can extend it until every film drafted finished its run

If a film moves out of 2022, we will allow a replacement but both posters who lose the film from their picks must agree on the replacement. There will be no penalty for both posters due to the still recovering theatrical landscape from the pandemic causing unforeseeable production delays.

If a film is moved off the 2023 theatrical schedule before the draft is completed, the draft will pause when the first person notices the move and posts it in the group. That player will then have a chance to pick another film before play continues.

550m cap per film.

There will again be a pool. I will choose the pool very soon once we have the amount of players.

I'm in, but I would like clarification on my above gripe.

Algren, that rule is so we can declare a winner and not have 2 games going past January.

It's a stupid rule, and puts winter releases at a disadvantage. Who cares if two games are running at the same time. One will be in its latter stages and one wouldn't have gotten going yet anyway. I'm sure the players here can mentally deal with the idea of a finishing 2023 game and a brand spanking new 2024 game at the same time.

Grosses shouldn't be limited to jan.31, it's unlikely gross after that is going to determine a winner, but if it's that close, the full film gross should count.

I'll think about it but I hate changing rules that have been around since the beginning lol, I'm a traditionalist.

You're right. Last year it was Shack and lilmac that supported the notion of dropping the January 2023 close, and I remembered their authority and substituted them for you. It's a shame, because I played the game this whole year thinking that grosses would be counted beyond January, and they aren't.

I really wish you would change it. It's not like you have to do anything. Just wait for a handful of films to stop reporting, and you know most likely I will update charts anyway, as I have been doing this year.
