I don't expect it to. If it gets $75m-ish, I'll be jubilant. I'm hoping for $80-85m, but that requires a big theatre count.

Nono, the numbers of the Weekend Warrior are usually ComingSoon's personal estimations, not official ones, hehe. :)

Actually..

http://www.comingsoon.net/weekendwarrior/2004/oct29.php

Read under the predictions.

*In the quickest update in Weekend Warrior history, it's been confirmed that Saw will open in at least 2,500 theatres this weekend, which changes everything.

That's not personal estimation. It's real, similar to what happened for Hero's weekend, when WW reported early as well.

2,006 theaters for Ray...wow.

Anyone think it can average $10,000 per theater for the weekend. It's been getting massive amounts of hype, so I'm expecting it to do well, just not sure how well.

I was actually expecting a limited release with a quick expansion, to allow it to build good word of mouth.

I expect a $8000 PTA. It has the buzz, PG-13, the screens, and the African American crowd. The only thing that may hurt it is its length, which is 2.5 hours long.

Wow, well, I usually don't read WW, hehe.
When I used to read it those were always projections.

Just so you know, that 2,500 theatres is directly from the Lions Gate rep who is dealing with SAW. I wouldn't have raised the theatre count and my prediction so spuriously or quickly based on mere speculation. The latest WW was posted Tuesday morning as normal, and while waiting to interview the guys behind the movie later that day, I was chatting with the guy from Lions Gate and he told me that they were rolling it out in 2,500 theatres.

It's not uncommon for early estimates from ERC/BOM to be underestimated and considering the number of commercials in the last few days, there is certainly a growing buzz so Lions Gate must have been able to squeeze out a couple hundre more. (Don't forget that Open Water also had a low theatre count until the week it opened and then jumped up to 2,700.) Just thought I should clarify that because I've seen a few comments about my quick update both here and on another message board, both places assuming I was speculating that number.

I can see Saw doing a $20 million weekend if it can get about 2,700-2,800 theaters. :)

Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but Saw having over an over 2000 count is surprising.

Has it been hyped up/receiving good press?

Actually, yes. It's IMDB rating is 7.6/10 at the moment and it has been getting better reviews at RT than all other horror movies released this year. It's box-office run in the UK is very impressive as well.

Alright, that makes perfect sense- think I'm going to go see this one this weekend if I can get it in around my work schedule.
