Knives Out 2 - 1 Week Event
Netflix and the major theaters just announced a 1 week run in about 600 theaters for the Glass Onion (Nov. 23 - 29th). Even with it coming out December 23 on Netflix, I feel like this could still be an event movie people see over Thanksgiving weekend. How will it do? The original made $26,769,548/$165,363,234 domestic for a 6.2 multiplier. Even with 1 week of release in 600 theaters, I could see surpass the first film's OW. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movie ... 235234945/

Being a month ahead will help. If it's in a theater near me I will check it out.
I could see it maybe do about 20m in that week, though I doubt netflix will report numbers

The streaming-only thing is imploding I feel. Studios have realized that it robs movies of event status that affects how much they're cherished and rewatched years down the line.

Only 1 week? Netflix hates making money apparently

A normal Knives Out 2 run probably gets to $200M. And Netflix would still get a huge subcriber boost when they put it on in January/February.

We've been seeing that for a few months already. Which is why it's disappointing that Halloween Ends is still releasing on Peacock on the same day as in theatres.

Yeah it's honestly frustrating. They could have at least given it a month in wide release. Plenty of people would go see it. I hate that it's only at AMC, Regal and Cinemark. If I want to go see it I'll have to drive a couple hours to an AMC. Should have been at every chain that would take it. Marcus Theatres have been carrying all theatrical Netflix releases so they certainly would have.

Re: Knives Out 2 - 1 Week Event
So I've just caught up with this story now, and to me it feels more like a one-week marketing event. They won't report grosses, it's only in 600 cinemas, so it looks as though it's just being done to drum up excitement for the 23rd December Netflix bow from "sneak previews". A best-of-both-worlds test to see if putting it in theatres for very short time will lift the movie to the levels of a proper theatrical release for when it lands on Netflix. This whole idea just makes Netflix look nervous, that they bought a film for $400 million and are worried that it won't attract the eyes it should if it was to land on the platform cold.

Re: Knives Out 2 - 1 Week Event
This would surely have made $200m or so theatrically so it’s a major bummer it’s not getting a proper release. Even a 10 day release around Thanksgiving would have netted it $100m+ before a mega more prestigious streaming gig. Perhaps they’ll change their tune for the third film.

Re: Knives Out 2 - 1 Week Event
Apparently Angela Lansbury's final film appearance will be in Glass Onion. That's a very fitting farewell for her since she spent 12 years on MSW working on similar investigations but also super coincidental how close it is to release.

Re: Knives Out 2 - 1 Week Event
Interesting. That's kind of the perfect send-off considering her most famous role was in MSW.
